Thousands of Bahrainis celebrate Jerusalem Day

MANAMA (AFP) - Thousands of Bahrainis celebrated Al-Qods (Jerusalem) Day, expressing anger at Arab regimes and calling for a boycott of American goods.

"Your silence is a crime, O Arabs of the defeat," demonstrators shouted, led by Shiite religious leaders, an AFP correspondent reported.

Carrying portraits of, among others, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, founder of Iran's Islamic Republic, some 10,000 demonstrators, according to organisers, called for the closure of US military bases in the region and a boycott of American goods throughout the Arab world.

The demonstration ended peacefully after an hour and a half.

1. I lived in Bahrain from 1988-1991...

it's a nice place, actually..."the pearl of the Gulf." They used to like Americans...sad how things change!

2. Kuwait

My girlfriend has a friend teaching in Kuwait. She says that the textbooks do not mention Israel, and that the Kuwaitis are never aloud to use the word "holocaust". Israel is not aloud to be shown on any map either.
