Police Lose Control of Mosul Amid Uprising
Edited on Fri Nov-12-04 05:58 PM by Tab
AGHDAD, Iraq - The Iraqi government rushed reinforcements Friday to the country's third-largest city, Mosul, seeking to quell a deadly militant uprising that U.S. officials suspected may be in support of the resistance in Fallujah — now said to be under 80 percent U.S. control.

Police in Mosul largely disappeared from the streets, residents reported, and gangs of armed men brandishing automatic weapons and rocket-propelled grenade launchers roamed the city, 225 miles north of Baghdad. Responding to the crisis, Iraqi authorities dismissed Mosul's police chief after local officials reported that officers were abandoning their stations to militants without firing a shot.

1. Not too good.
It is taking longer to reoccupy Fallujah than it took to occupy all of Iraq in 2003.

The chimp has his work cut out for him. I'm glad a good guy like Kerry didn't get stuck with this tar baby.

7.  dispatched 4 battalions of the ING from the Syrian and Iranian border
In addition to firing the Mosul police chief, Iraqi authorities also dispatched four battalions of the Iraqi National Guard from garrisons along the Syrian and Iranian borders.

Most of the reinforcements are ethnic Kurds who fought alongside American forces during the 2003 invasion — a move which could inflame ethnic rivalries with Mosul's Sunni Arab population. Nevertheless, it appeared Iraqi authorities had no choice given the apparent failure of the city's police force to maintain order.

And then the Nazgul turned and fled and
vanished into Mordor's shadows, hearing
a sudden, terrible call out of the Dark Tower.-
Tolkien

Just imagining the Generals' looking up from their
war games in Fallujah and seeing Al-Mawsil (Mosul)
and all that it represents, firmly under the control of
the Resistance.

IRR Friday 111204

American forces were reportedly being rushed to the city in
a frantic effort by the aggressors to regain control. Al-
Jazeera reported American aircraft running air strikes on
the rebellious city Friday evening, although they noted that
the Americans were denying that the Resistance had
seized control there.

The puppet regime installed by the Americans in
Baghdad dismissed the puppet police chief in Mosul
after reports that the puppet police in the city were
surrendering their posts to the Resistance without firing a
shot.

The American Associated Press (AP) reported that
the Resistance in Mosul attacked the local headquarters of
the collaborationist Kurdish chauvinist so-called “Patriotic
Union of Kurdistan” party where a battle raged for an hour.

The Resistance also reportedly assassinated the puppet chief
of the Mosul “anti-crime” task force Brigadier General
Muwaffaq Muhammad Dahham and set his house
ablaze.
