16. Only two presidents before the Little Dictator tried to buck the CIA...
....and neither finished their current terms. They were JFK and Nixon.

The rank-and-file is getting tired of waiting.

Think about it.

2. Bush's reign will be nasty, brutish and short
Religion with a capital R and Belief with a capital B in what priests tell you are a terrible things. The promise of Eternal Paradise in Heaven, if believed, upsets the rational calculus by which a man scared of violent death and desirous of commodious living signs the Social Contract and bends his neck to the Sovereign Leviathan. Thus religious fanaticism--in Hobbes's case the Roundheads who shot out the stained-glass windows of Canterbury Cathedral for target practice, or the followers of Archbishop Laud who were willing to kill to move the communion table up to the back of the church--breeds large-scale death and destruction.

They need to gather together and go public. tell the truth and let the chips fall where they may. the security of our nation is at stake. The CIA guy named anonymous who wrote that book is resigning after 22 years and will be on the tube over the next few days. watch for him.

6. Well, Goss DID say he wasn't up to being in the CIA these days
Now we know why.

It's out of our hands now. Let's just sit back and watch the show, and hope the next terrorist attack is in one of the red states.

How dare professional career agents stand up to a politician and the politician's chief of staff. How dare they say 'well, this is how we did in in the House of Representatives!'.

8. OK, so when are these guys going to do something about it?
Quitting, well that's just great. An opportunity for Goss to put in a puppet. Why don't these guys release some of the stuff I've seen, like the picture of Goss with frigging Bobby Seal. I mean, seriously, what are they waiting for?

14. This Murray dude seems like quite the 'sum bitch'
When do you know things are not good? Well here's an exemplary passage -

...

Yesterday, Murray told the associate deputy director of counterintelligence that if anything in the newly appointed executive director's personnel file made it into the media, the counterintelligence official "would be held responsible," according to one agency official and two former colleagues with knowledge of the conversation.

18. Every federal institution has to submit to total power
I wouldn't get all dewy eyed about the CIA. The problem it presents to the Pentagon neo-cons is that it is an independent source of power as an institution. Goss thinks he's going to become some sort of player by selling out the agency. He's dreaming as so many Brownshirts did during Hitler's rise. Not that he won't succeed in reducing the agency's stature. His very appointment does that because he is incompetent at everything except covering up treason and blunders. With this administration covering up such matters is a full time job.

The agency played a role in 911, and it's performance has been all but diastrous in Iraq. Nevertheless, it represents something still that can't be completely subdued by the Pentagon war profiteering management as the center of total power. Therefore, it will be beaten into subservience. It's prior lack of responsiveness was viewed as a rightest trojan horse in democratic administrations. Now it's characteristically unconstitutional off budget independence is regarded as a threat to those who seek total power.
