Two more Sunni clerics arrested in raids by Iraqi forces
http://www.boston.com/dailynews/318/world/Two_more_Sunni_clerics_arreste:.shtml

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) Iraqi security forces arrested two Sunni clerics and more than a dozen of followers in two separate raids on mosques south of Baghdad, a Muslim cleric's group said Saturday.

Yehia Saleh and Ibrahim Mohammed, members of the influential Association of Muslim Scholars, were detained late Friday during raids in Iskandariyah, according to Sheik Abbas Mohammed with the scholars group.

He also said fourteen of their followers were arrested in the raid 30 miles south of Baghdad.

The Association of Muslim Scholars, with some 3,000 clerics nationwide, is considered the most influential Sunni group in Iraq. It hardened its opposition to the U.S. presence in Iraq and has called for a nationwide boycott of the January elections.

2. But Sistani must be pleased...
Nothing like have the US military eliminate the competition for you. Will he be surprised when the Shia aren't granted that big slice of the pie after the American puppet govt is firmly installed come January. His only legacy will be that of the cleric who stood by in collaborative silence while Fallujah was flattened.

3. Yes
Sistani should be ashamed of the way he has abandoned Fallujah to the brutal American onslaught. But obviously he has calculated which position best suits him and triangulated his morality accordingly. He must be getting on with Bush and Blair and Allawi very well.

4. from AP" With resistance in Fallujah waning, U.S. and Iraqi forces began
moving against insurgent sympathizers among the country's hardline Sunni religious leadership, arresting at least four clerics and raiding offices of groups that spoke out against the assault."
