International support for Iraqi election essential: Bush
Edited on Sat Nov-13-04 10:22 AM by maddezmom
WASHINGTON (AFP) - International support for Iraqi elections scheduled for January is essential and "growing," US President George W. Bush (news - web sites) said, even as another member of the US-led coalition in Iraq (news - web sites) confirmed it would withdraw troops in coming months.

"International support for the Iraqi election is essential, and that support continues to grow," Bush said in his weekly radio address.

The comment came as The Netherlands confirmed it would withdraw the 1,300 Dutch troops currently serving in Iraq by March 15. Several countries -- Spain, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Honduras, Philippines, Thailand -- have already pulled out their troops from Iraq.

Of the 30 countries still in the US-led coalition, several, including Ukraine, Poland, Italy, Hungary and Latvia, have announced or hinted at withdrawal or reduction of their forces in coming months.

"Military forces from some 30 nations are working alongside Iraqi forces

and the AP headline:
Bush Warns of Growing Violence in Iraq

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush (news - web sites) warned on Saturday that guerrilla violence in Iraq (news - web sites) could worsen, even as U.S. forces battled to stamp out resistance in the insurgent stronghold of Falluja.

In his weekly radio address, Bush said U.S. troops and Iraqi forces were "taking back the city" of Falluja from guerrillas and restoring order as part an operation aimed at bringing stability to the area ahead of January elections.

"Fighting together, our forces have made significant progress in the last several days," the president said.

But he said that as January elections drew near, "the desperation of the killers will grow, and the violence could escalate. The success of democracy in Iraq would be a crushing blow to the forces of terror, and the terrorists know it."

So please send more troops to assist the US military. :eyes:

5. Shouldn't there be International support for fair elections here first
We need fair and accurate elections here now. We need voter reform. This issue needs to be covered by our media not just the international media.

10. Why does he insist
Why does he insist on learning the hard way?

I bet he was like that with his dad. Except here, when everyone's telling him not to do something and he insists on learning the hard way, this time hundreds of thousands people get killed.

Things on peoples' minds in Iraq right now: finding food, trying to earn some money, keeping their kids from being kidnapped, dodging bombs, trying not to get riddled with bullets at checkpoints, working really hard on not being at the wrong place at the wrong time when the next car bomb goes off.

Things not on peoples' minds in Iraq right now: standing in long lines to vote for this or that political candidate (not finding food, not trying to earn some money) and running a very good chance of being in the wrong place at the wrong time when the election day car bombs go off.

300 million Americans, and this stupid mouth-breathing prick is the best we could do? Fucking simian moron.
