CA Group to Air Ads to Back Schwarzenegger for President
SACRAMENTO, Calif. Nov 13, 2004 — Californians will soon see advertisements urging them to help give Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and other foreign-born citizens the chance to run for president.

The cable television ads, set to being running Monday, are from a Silicon Valley-based group that wants to amend the U.S. Constitution, which limits the presidency to people born in the United States. Schwarzenegger was born in Austria but became a U.S. citizen in 1983.

"You cannot choose the land of your birth. You can choose the land you love," Lissa Morgenthaler-Jones says in the ads.

She is a San Francisco Bay area mutual fund manager and major Schwarzenegger campaign donor who is helping pay for the ads and created a companion Web site.

Schwarzenegger, 57, has said he would consider running for president if the Constitution allowed but hasn't pushed for a constitutional change.

61. I'm telling you..............
He is going to be the next George Bush. A front man for the neo-con agenda. Someone who they feel can get elected because of his high profile with the American public. I think the same group behind Bush were responsible for the recall and getting Arnold into the governorship. Don't forget his involement in the energy meeting, the one he couldn't remember attending. You think it might had had anything to do with Enron? I think so. But he has never been pressured to reveal what went on in that meeting. Look for the push to change the constitution allowing foreigners to run for president.

3. H.L. Mencken once said
"As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron."

24. Who else do the Republicans have to run?
They can no longer run anyone based on ideas and/or a record of public service.....so they run another actor. It's all about name/face recognition and the image that Arnold has. Truely, a President for this TV-society. They are certainly getting desperate to find viable candidates.

And the funniest thing? Opening our Presidency up to any foreigner....this would be anathema to a generations of Americans past. My dad's generation would be blown away by this. A son of a Nazi running for President.......

37. There is a reason for it.
The founding fathers were afraid that a foreign born President might hold a higher alleigence to their "mother country". At that time, we were a far weaker country in the world and the danger of a President who could sell out this country was of paramount concern.

If he even begins to seriously consider this, she'll kick him out of bed for another 14 days, by the end of which, Arnie will really begin to feel like the "girlie man" he seems to detest so much.

I don't think she has any desire whatsoever to be First Lady. By her own admission, she's done her best to escape the realm of politics, having grown up in a major political family and all. I don't think she ever imagined that her marriage might carry her back into them.

But, like I heard someone say, put a clause in that it won't take effect until 20 years after it passes. That way, it won't be done for the benefit of one person and we can have a discussion about whether it's really a good idea or not.

As a Californian, I am so sorry for inflicting Arnold on the national body politic. In our defense, you have to remember what a bizarre recall election it was and how many candidates (over a hundred, if I remember correctly), all because of the energy cartel's electric-deregulation disaster, all of which was unfairly pinned on Gray Davis, who went to extraordinary lengths to remediate the mess. I mean we had porn stars and drag queens running for governor and all that nonsense.

Here in CA we need to work double hard to defeat Arnold when he comes up for re-elect, if for no other reason just so he won't be in a position to ever run for national office, in any event. Sigh.

But the way to defeat this rather easily is to appeal to the South's and the fundie's xenophobia.

Put pictures of Osama and Sadam and scary looking Arabs (hey, and some Mexicans for good measure) with eery music and the tagline... "Do you really want foreigners able to run for Leader of the land of the free?"

Bingo. End of amendment.

I am sending this to notify you of fraud being perpetrated by my employer, Governor Schwarzenegger. Last Monday, he declared that his personal aide, Ms. Brüstner, was "running dry," and that he "required it fresh." He had his resident physicians, Nurses Blond and Buxom, contact Sacramento General Hospital for mother's milk. He was to call them later and pretend he was running an orphanage in the State Capitol Basement.
I wish to remind you that utmost secrecy is vital, as my safety would be endangered from many quarters should this be revealed to certain persons.
Sincerely,
Ms. Boozom

60. Osama's Kid Can Run for President in 20 Years Too!
This opens the door for Osama's Kids...

Saudi Royal Family Members Kids...

anyone who gets residency and makes a few movies, says what the people want to hear, and has a multi billion dollar family worth could become president under this measure.

Bob Dole is behind all of this guys, he even said it on a CNN interview during the GOP Convention week.

64. good point
and since the saudi's already own 20 percent of American finance, they probably would be very interested in running for pres. And since Osama has been such a good buddy of the Bush family, maybe he can run himself, why wait for the son? The Bush's will campaign for him, Jeb can deliver Florida and Diebold the rest.

62. Okay.. Now WHERE is the "other group" to counter this CRAPPOLA?
Of course the audio version of their commercial will run 24/7 on the 99.9% rightwing radio out here...

I, for one, think there should be a total ban on ALL political ads...unless it's the candidate themselves ..and only telling what THEY PLAN to do..and NO ads until 90 days defore any given election...

70. You cannot choose the land of your birth. You can choose the land you love
Is that why we keep out all those who wish to immigrate?

Now I see.

72. Will the other civilized countries adopt the same policy too?
I want to be England's Prime Minister but, golly and gadzooks, I wasn't born in the UK.

Still, at least the other civilized countries give gays equal rights and the US won't because of its "conservative" values. :eyes:

You'd think the libruls would conjure up the Gropinator for President gambit, not the repukes.

75. I think it's interesting that Teresa Kerry

was the target of so much vicious criticisim regarding her being a foreigner (I received about 5 chain e mails about her) despite her being a very traditonal mom and using her wealth to help the community she lived in, while Arnold who is kind of an egotistical selfish pig is on the fast track to the White House.

I really hate the fact that celebrity and name recognition is so prevalent in politics now. I mean it always has been to a degree, but I really wish the electorate weren't so shallow.

Let's assume Ahnold *could* run for president. What would be the final score in a Hillary -vs- Arnie race?

I think the programmers (well, management really) would prefer Ahnold though.

78. Here's one of the ads here:
http://www.amendus.org/Multimedia.aspx

And Americans are stupid enough to make this Nazi president.

I honestly don't think Americans know the difference between fantasy and reality -- I mean they think Bush is a Christian and Arrrrnie is an action hero come to 'fix the mess.'

80. Bad enough as the Governator
I live in California, he is beloved amongst those who don't pay much attention to politics.

Despite the fact he has done nothing to punish Enron or protect california from getting scammed again. Just the opposite, he wants more de-regulation.

His fiscal vision is flawed as well, it is more important to Arnold to keep in line with the no tax ideology and pay massive interest than it is for taxes to be increased slightly to balance the budget.

He would not stand up to the scrutiny of a national election though.

82. I would think that
the bushies would have a hard time getting a constitutional amendment passed and ratified by a majority of states that allowed a foriegn born president considering how much his supporters object to immigrants. Old muscle man may appeal to them just now but all we have to do is remind them that this change could open up the door to anyone.
