Bush threatens mankind, says Caldicott
Nobel Peace Prize nominee Dr Helen Caldicott fears US President George Bush's re-election will lead to Armageddon and she isn't sure if mankind would survive another four years.

"This is the most serious election that has ever occurred in the history of the human race, without a scrag of doubt," she told smh.com.au.

"I don't know if we'll survive the next four years ... I don't think the Americans have, on the whole, the faintest idea - and I have to say also I don't think most Australians do either. But it's not just the threat from nuclear war. It's the threat of what's happening to the environment, the global warming which is occurring rapidly now, to ozone depletion, to species extinction, to deforestation - it's the whole thing."

Speaking from her son Will's Boston home, the Australian paediatrician, who runs the Nuclear Policy Research Institute in Washington, has just spent a frantic two-and-a-half months criss-crossing America to deliver her anti-nuclear and anti-Bush message. She discovered the country was more divided than at any time since she first stepped onto American soil in 1966.

5. "If You Love This Planet"
In 1983, The National Film Board of Canada's documentary of a Caldicott lecture, "If You Love This Planet," was labelled a "propaganda film by agents of a foreign government" by the US Justice Dept, and its distribution was restricted. (Along with a couple of other NFB films on acid rain.)

Twenty-one fucking years ago.

Humanity. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

11. Caldicott is one of my heroes, too. This is appalling.
One quarter of the voters (roughly)voted for an illusion of morality, another quarter were uninformed or swayed by superficial name-calling or personal financial interest, the other half knew what was happening and somehow couldn't get it through to the others. To the world, we look like idiots, as if * reflects who we are. I pray that the recount changes things, even though it's a hair-thin chance.

16. Another quote:
"They have been able to con the American people with their extremely brilliant propaganda and brainwashing, with the help of the media ... they consistently lie. On the whole the American people don't really understand the dynamics of the right at all. They don't know that Bush et al want to go into Iran next and that they want to dominate the world militarily and that they want to put weapons in space.

"I don't think they understand. It is a mandate for Bush to do absolutely anything he wants. I know people don't like me using this word but they're fascists."

21. How could it happen?
Iran? I heard if we strike them they will strike back. They seem to be stopping with the enrichment of uranium though. He has those little nukes too that are more usable. And the country he strikes would use the big nukes in response. Terrorists maybe like that movie with Ben Affleck? Maybe, if the terrorists get a nuclear bomb and denonate it here, and then Bush automatically just nukes the country that they are found to come from and that country or an allied country responds like North Korea or Iran. I say a documentary about how the president has access to a suitcase that can lauches nuclear missiles. They carry around this "button" so he can be ready to do that at any time if anything suddenly develops. Scary.

"...the Americans have, on the whole, the faintest idea..."

I believe the Americans DO have an idea of what's happening. There are many more of us than she realizes who despise what's going on. If EVERY VOTE was counted, it would be shown that Bush actually lost by quite a large margin.

24. I emailed this article to my list and got this response. I'm in shock.
"You know, I agree that Armageddon will follow Bush's re-election! Why, because it is Biblical. There will be an Armageddon but it won't be until after Christ returns and we go thru the Tribulation. It will be the battle that ends all battles! It will be between Christ himself and Evil, itself.

All that is in the news is leading to this fact. As I study the Old Testament the awesome reality of "fulfilled prophecy" has made itself known to me. There are many prophecies that are coming true now and the stage is set for more. It would happen no matter who was elected. If Kerry had won we still would have Armageddon in the future!

I hope you don't think I am "radical" with this statement. It is just that I, personally believe it as truth. Christ will return and my future is with Him. It is a promise that is carried thru the entire Bible, both Old and New Testament.

Ginny, I hope my beliefs on this issue doesn't dampen our budding friendship. Remember we agreed to agree to disagree in politics and religion. I can't promise that I won't try to share my religious beliefs because I care for you . I do promise that I won't preach at you though, because I know you have had some bad experiences with "religion".

29. Not on my watch is that nutcase going to take everyone with him.
He and all his damned Tim LaHaye-reading "Rapture" freakazoids can take a boat to somewhere a long away from the US and have their end of the world party there. This is PRECISELY why these people are dangerous! It's not the outward manifestations -- war, poverty, disease -- although those are horrid results -- it's the *mentality* that is allowed to thrive. I always have wondered, since being younger and reading John Hersey's "Hiroshima" (required reading for all of you, by the way), what would emerge from total nuclear war, humanistically speaking, and if the first thing the survivors would do would be forever forbid weaponry like that -- to prevent anything like that from happening. Secondly, one would hope they'd prevent ignorance.

For let's face it...ignorance is what is ruling the day right now. Again, it's not about the manifestations -- propaganda in the form of corpomedia, ballot shenanignans, religious nutjobs being allowed to vote en masse -- it's the *ignorance*, the lack of education, and somehow this is permissible in our society? Somehow American individuals think they are above the law, above God, above rational thought, above facts -- and this needs to be stopped. (Try challenging a red-stater and see if they don't think they've "won" the argument just because "they said so".)

You know, I know there's the old saw about "why argue, you're not going to change anyone's mind" -- well, screw that. I'm all for making ignorant people as mad and uncomfortable until they realize their errors, if at all possible. I won't go down without a fight in any argument, based on solid facts and science. It's time for the mouthbreathers to feel what it's like to be upset and angry at the direction the country and the world is going.

If ever there was a time to have a civil war, now would be the time -- before it's too late.

I'm Zerex71 and I approve this message.

Although to the last they are all anti-*, it's all a bit too much for some people and they dismissed it as dramatics or "You have been watching too many Hollywood disaster movies". Too many people thinking of the short term. Come to think of it, I was the only father among them (I have two girls). 34. There may be one glimmer of hope
According to Colonel Donn De Grand Pre (former military for years and in the know), who's written three books on what really happened on 911 and other stuff, offers some hope. He says that about 70% of the military are on board with us, the good guys, and will intervene when the time comes.

Here's an excerpt of an interview with him...

AJ: We are talking to Col. Donn de Grand-Pre and he worked in many of the levels of the U.S. military and has put out some really important information.

<snip>

DGP: Well, I'm in personal contact at least on a weekly basis with the Joint Chiefs and other select people. My computation is that 70% of us are with us. That's the higher ranking military, field grade officers, etc. and even the first three grades of the enlisted ' 70% are with us.

<snip>

DGP: Sheer bluff and we can thank many of the neocons who are now in power in the Defense Dept. particularly. They get away with it because they try it out and see if anybody will salute the flag and that's the way it goes.

AJ: So basically, they wrap their un-American agenda in a flag and the general public buys it so the military has to sit there and take it.

DGP: They do, yes, and I think those days are coming to an end. The military ain't going to take it any longer.

57. Not all military officials follow orders blindly
Edited on Wed Nov-17-04 11:40 AM by Frozen Hamster
People tend to slightly over-estimate the powers of nation leaders to blindly attack other powerful nations.

I recall that Paul Bremer, or some other now high-ranking military officer, in the Kosovo war ordered the bombing of a Serbian airport that the Russian army WAS IN THE PROCESS OF OCCUPYING. Thankfully for the world his subordinate refused to comply, saying "I'm not going to start the third world war for YOU."
We must all hope that military officials will have the bravery and sense of refusing to obey completely suicidal orders.

Edit: I just remembered that I never saw any of this collaborated anywhere by a reliable source or offical documents. Soy this may not be true, but still...

46. Surely you're capable of doing a Google search, no?
"Physician, humanist, empassioned advocate for nuclear disarmament and a true woman of peace is Nobel Peace Prize nominee, Dr. Helen Caldicott.

Helen Caldicott is recognized in every corner of the globe as the most visible advocate for peace in the world. Her awards, acknowledgments and citations fill pages - just to name a few: Peace Medal Award (United Nations Association of Australia), which she shared with her husband, William Caldicott, who is equally dedicated to the mission for world peace; Integrity Award (John-Roger Foundation), which she shared with Bishop Desmond TuTu; Peace Award (American Association of University Women); SANE Peace Award; Ghandi Peace Prize... and the list goes on. Dr. Caldicott has written books (Nuclear Madness.- What You Can Do and Missile Envy), developed dozens of video tapes and films, written scores of articles which have appeared in nearly every major newspaper and magazine; spoken at major universities throughout the world and has met with heads of state everywhere.

She founded and headed Physicians For Social Responsibility and Women's Action For Nuclear Disarmament (WAND)."
