1. Either way, this is a tragedy and the war is a travesty
Starting in March, every time I see a casualty news bit, I'm going to worry if it was my friend or wife's cousin.

But hey, at least the US still has VALUES . . .

2. Some time in the near future, a small article will appear on page 18
of the Washington Times acknowledging the copter was shot down, long after the outrage over the deaths of the passengers, long after another outrage blossoms yet again over a quagmire know as Iraq.

BAGHDAD (Sapa-AFP) -- At least 31 US Marines were killed in a US transport helicopter crash near the western Iraqi city of Rutbah, according to military and media reports yesterday.

It is the highest number of US fatalities to result from a single incident since the US first occupied Iraq almost two years ago.

Earlier yesterday the US military in Baghdad confirmed the crash saying it happened overnight as the helicopter was transporting soldiers from the 1st Marine Division, headquartered in Fallujah.

Witnesses said the helicopter appeared to have been hit by a surface-to-air missile and exploded on hitting the ground.

A second helicopter also came under fire but was able to reach safety, the witnesses said."

7. Either is bad news...............
But I'll bet the equipment is taking a real beating over there by now. Sand is a big problem for sensitive electronics, bearings, filters, hydraulics, etc. I wonder how much more the equipment can stand before it's pulled for major overhauling?
