AS DUBYA SINKS, AL & HILL SCHEME - Toesucker Morris chimes in
http://www.nypost.com/postopinion/opedcolumnists/5261.htm

HERE'S what I see happening in the 2004 presidential race: Al Gore is watching President Bush. Hillary Clinton is watching Gore. Bush is watching Hillary and the Democrats are watching Dean.
Everything clear? Here's the long version:

Bush's poll numbers continue to tank. The Zogby poll has his job approval at 45 percent, a drop of seven points since August and 19 since last year. (Zogby's methodology generally understates job approval, but the downward trend is unmistakable). The Fox News/Opinion Dynamic poll shows that Bush would get only 50 percent of the vote in a trial heat against Gore. It would be a rerun of 2000 - and we'd still be waiting up all night to learn the count in Florida.

<snip>

So Bush can hope Dean's surge continues and presents a McGovernesque target for him in November. But Democrats are slowly waking up to the possibility that they may have the '04 election in their grasp, only to throw it away on the Dean candidacy. This is generating tremendous intra-party pressure on Gore and Hillary to run.

<snip>

But Gore may suddenly see a real possibility of a straight run for the nomination and a general-election win. A review of the donor lists of the Democratic contenders shows that most of the former vice president's money people are still sitting out the race. Were he to run, Gore would force out most of the other Democrats and likely make quick work of Dean. In November, Gore would enter the election as the favorite against Bush.

Hey, with AWOL at a Florida school today - thought you all could use some comic relief.

1. Gore in '04
I don't know who'd be his VP but I could see Wesley Clark as Sec of State and Howard Dean as Sec HHS. Hillary would make a killer political advisor, as would Bill.

2. Dick Morris is full of s*** as usual
Hillary is not running. Gore is not running (although I wouldn't be upset if he did). Wesley Clark is running.

10. He NEVER gave good advice
He wanted Clinton to be a Republican. Oh, I will amend that. He probably gave good advice as to who the best hookers in DC were.

:silly:

5. This is just right wing wishful thinking......
They attempt to amuse themselves at our parties expense, to divide and defocus. Republican *rovian knights assume we are ignorant and would nibble at such bait. To discuss unrealistic options of candidates who are not willing to run and have repeatedly said they were not running is insulting. It is obvious to this reader that the right wing spin doctors realish the thought of democrats chasing their tails on a path to know where. It only serves their adgenda.

We support Howard Dean because he is a leader, he is in their lying faces, reminding us of what an illegtimate and irresponsible administraton this is. We will take back our country.

Make no mistake, this reader is not alone in seeing thru this malarkey.

Hey rove, we know this is is spin.

8. "Klaus is a moron--he only knows what he reads in the NY Post"
Great line from the movie Top Secret.

Dean can win, and the more right-wing GOP propoganda machines like the Post compare Dean to McGovern, the more we realize how good Dean is, and how much Rove and his evil minions fear him. They want the Dems to bite and trash Dean, and apparently nitwits like Holy Joe are taking the bait!

7. I love this bit
Why is Bush falling so badly? The superficial reasons are the Iraq casualties, the failure to find WMDs and the continuing inability to round up Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden. But the real reason is that terror is receding as an issue, largely due to Bush's success.

The solution for Bush is to put terrorism back on the front burner by high profile and aggressive action against Iran and/or North Korea. It's not necessary to wag the dog, but Bush should wag his tongue and raise the profile of these two remaining threats to our security.

There's a novel idea. Use the "war on terror" as a political tool to boost Captain Segways ratings. I'm surprised that no one in the Bush administration has thought of this before.

There is so much here that deserves a response, but it's so fucking stupid it's not worth the effort.

:silly:

9. Of course Morris doesn't mention the economy
Zogby says that's the primary reason behind Bush's decline.

12. "Terror"
is the only thing keeping him in the 40% plus range. Take that away and he sinks into the 30's, 20's, etc

11. Very interesting article.....
The scary part is at the very end....

"W" is a drug-store cowboy acting like a pResident...which makes Dick Morris' sceneraio plausible. Now, that's scary.
