Freedom is on the march...
The only obstacles: terrorists and the U.N.

United States and Iraqis Give Lesson in Democracy to UN

by Freedom Alliance

January 28, 2005
Dulles VA -- “The elections in Iraq are an example of democracy, and the United Nations is discouraged that democracy is actually taking root,” says Tom Kilgannon, President of Freedom Alliance, in response to UN complaints today that “the U.S. military has been overly enthusiastic in trying to help out with this election.”

Kilgannon continued, “We thought the terrorists were the only danger in deterring the elections, but now it is the UN as well, as they globally disparage our efforts in promoting safe, free elections. It is no surprise though, the UN turns a blind eye to tyranny, and if President Bush has any hope whatsoever of defeating it as he stated in his inaugural speech, step one should be holding the United Nations accountable for harboring terrorists and dictators.”

1. Just A Reminder....
We didn't go to Iraq to instill freedom. No, we supposedly went because of

1. An eminent threat to the United States.

2. SH had bio-chemical weapons.

3. That SH's drones (weed-whackers with wings) were going to fly over the US and poison us with gas. Isn't that why we were suppose to buy plastic and duck tape?

4. Aluminum tubes for irrigation, I mean nuclear material.

5. SH was going to have nuclear capability within 6 months.

6. And yes, the infamous WMD's !!!!

Please explain exactly where in all of the hype of fear was there any notion from the Oaf in Office about FREEDOM?

OP

2. Naaah, we went for OIL
They had it, we (by 'we' I mean the royal wee--the weecowboy) wanted it. If the plan had worked, we'd probably be buying gas for 99 cents a gallon. However, since our failed little war, Iraq pumps way less than they used to, and sabotage further diminishes exports. That's why "we" want Chavez out of Venezuela. He has oil, weecowboy wants it.

It's all about the oil!

8. I think you are right except for the 99 cents part
We'll still pay 2 bucks a gallon but U.S. corporations will grow fat off the proceeds. The American people will not benefit in any way.

9. Americans
still pay ridiculously low prices for gas by developed world standards. As a non-driving Aussie living Europe, I'm more than happy to whack big taxes on petrol ... NOT GAS :-) ... and enjoy free healthcare.

10. We do pay a lot less for gas than other countries but
Our hideously car-dependent transportation infrastructure necessitates our driving a lot more so petrol is huge expense for most of us. Of course, this is not helped at all by the love of gas-guzzling behemoth vehicles and an utter lack of willingness on the part of the populace to commit to exploring alternatives. You would not believe the resistance to the proposed light rail project and bus service expansion here in Phoenix. Thankfully voters passed the initiatives but the carping continues. Peak oil is going to be a rude awakening for them...

7. Freedom at gunpoint is not freedom.
An occupying force will never enforce 'democracy' on a largely hostile populace.

I think history is pretty clear on that.

But hey, I'm just a member of the 'reality-based' community, so what do I know.
