The Destruction of Jeff Gannon

February 15, 2005

by Cliff Kincaid

Conservative bloggers made a name for themselves by starting the process that led to the “Rathergate” scandal. They questioned the authenticity of some alleged National Guard documents that CBS used in a campaign to smear the President’s military service. This was a real scandal, in which CBS backed away from the documents, an investigation was launched, and four people were fired from the network for their work on the story.

Left-wing bloggers have now made a name for themselves, and it is not pretty. They have taken the scalp of an on-line conservative journalist by the name of Jeff Gannon, who was virtually unknown until about three weeks ago. His crimes were that he was too pro-Republican, attended White House briefings, and asked questions unfair to Democrats. This became, for a group called Media Matters, the “White House press room scandal.” Never mind that “journalist” Helen Thomas has been giving anti-Bush political diatribes disguised as questions at these briefings for years.

A massive left-wing investigation of Gannon’s personal and business affairs was launched and was said to reveal that he was associated with some homosexual-sounding website addresses. Ironically, the Media Matters group is run by former conservative and once-closeted homosexual David Brock.

...

Was Gannon a Bush plant? Was he secretly on the White House payroll? The conspiracy theories were fed by the fact that Jeff Gannon wasn’t his real name; he used a professional name because he didn’t like the sound of his real name?James Guckert.

12. It's not that he's a HYPOCRITE, it is that he is a PLANT.
Republican hypocrites are a dime a dozen.

Why was this guy in the WH when his fake "news" web site had been up for less then a week? How did he get in there?

How did he get past security with a fake name or how did he get past security with his real name considering his past?

14. It's not that he's gay, it's that he's a key player in the destruction
of freedom in America and the rise of BushCo brand fascism.

2. I like their conclusion too:
"So the case against Gannon boils down to being too pro-Republican, writing stories with a conservative slant, and being linked to conduct, homosexuality, that is accepted and celebrated by those who were going after Gannon in the first place. The standard of the liberal thought police is evidently that someone’s private life should be protected?except when the accused is a conservative. The old media and their new found friends in the left-wing blogging community will stop at nothing to maintain their political power.
"

That's sums it up, yeah right...

3. yeah...but
Edited on Tue Feb-15-05 11:50 AM by LinuxInsurgent
for all the sloppy work that Rather did or did not (Bush was still AWOL...Rather just didn sloppy work)...Rather wasn't a gay, male prostitute with no journalistic experience, and links to the Valerie Plame leak.

There's a big difference...our "scalping" of Gannon is legitimate...Rather's scalping was quite the witchhunt. Yes, Rather was sloppy...but that wasn't deserving of what he got...Gannon's background is.

and I do think that his gay male prostitute background IS relevant...both because male prostitution is illegal...and because the topic of homosexuality has been a plank of the Republican anti-gay platform. I agree..it shouldn't be an issue...but if the Republicans do make it an issue...then it's relevant to bring up their hypocrisy in ignoring the BIG GAY ELEPHANT in the room...

4. It doesn't change the fact that he's a fake reporter...
working for a fake news website and had full access to the WH press briefings.

6. Funny... he doesn't mention prostitution
I would bet this was written before the websites were made public.
It's dated today but doesn't mention anything about the pics.
Their riding on saying we're bashing him for being gay. They fail to include that he wrote anti-gay articles and that he is a man whore.

13. Guckert is a CRIMINAL and a PRESSTITUTE
He did not so much "ask questions" at press conferences as regurgitate RW talking points (some of which were fabricated).

17. can you imagine the field day these retarded simians would have had...
had the clinton whitehouse showed special favoritism for an extreme leftist "reporter" who turned out to have absolutely worthless credentials, and who had worked just a few months previously as a heavily-advertised gay male prostitute?

18. What always amuses me, in a pathetic sort of way...
...is how these people just *do not get it*. They don't understand -- and don't want to be smart enough to understand -- that oftentimes it's *not* the political leanings that are getting these people into trouble. For all I care this idiot could have been a member of the Whig party, but I still would be enraged at (again) the sheer hypocrisy of BushCo -- letting an uncredentialed paid propaganda mouthpiece for their own party pose as a real reporter, and then asking softball questions that Little Scotty McClellan could easily handle (in the ways that Administration spokespeople do that says ABSOLUTELY NOTHING OF ANY SUBSTANCE, EVER). It's not that he was "pro-Bush" (distasteful as that was), and it's not a "gotcha" for shunting Helen Thomas off to the side because she actually dared ask impertinent questions of C-Plus Augustus -- it's that the guy violated the law, and BushCo was complicit in it. It's the same reason the moron Steffen got involved in the Ehrlich-O'Malley scandal -- and yet when they're silenced, they always cry "witch hunt", "politics of personal destruction", etc. instead of facing the fact that they are no-credibility-having, no-integrity-possessing scumbags who do the work of a murderous regime.

THAT's why they need to be identified and removed.

Mike
