The Bizarre Gannon Affair (David Corn in the Nation via Yahoo)
Edited on Tue Feb-15-05 04:26 PM by tuvor
There is something about the fuss over the White House reporter formerly known as Jeff Gannon that makes me uneasy. No, it's not the sexually explicit photos of him that accompany what appears to be ads in which he offers himself as a gay prostitute for clients seeking a military type. (These photographs were discovered by blogger John Aravosis. Click here--but not if you are faint-hearted.) These photos are an issue because the Bush White House granted Gannon--whose real name seems to be James Guckert--entry to press briefings conducted by press secretary Scott McClellan and press conferences with George W. Bush. Gannon/Guckert, who wrote for the conservative Talon News service (which is run by a Republican activist), was awarded such access even though he did not qualify for a congressional press pass--the standard press pass in Washington. It is legitimate to ask why the White House permitted a fellow with a spotty past and questionable credentials to become part of the press corps. Did he get special treatment because he was a conservative? After all, this whole to-do started when Gannon/Guckert at a January 26 press conference aked Bush a softball question in which he characterized Senate Democratic leaders as "people who seem to have divorced themselves from reality."

But let me raise a cautionary note or two.

1. David Corn
I think David Corn paid too much attention to "watch what you say, whatch what you do". He is not to be trusted.

3. This article overlooks everything! Talon News created just after Plame,
Connections to GOPUSA, Connection of Talon News to outing Plame, Male Prostitute who is actively soliciting while he's pretending to be a reporter, using an assumed name to get White House Press Credentials and
having access to the White House or the President while being an active Male Prostitute for hire.

Corn attacks the Messenger and not the Message!

What's up...must be something big with Gurket to have this push back...:eyes:

4. So...should DU'ers who fight the Freeps go over to David's Blog and
give him the FACTS on why Gannon/Gurket is important? And, while you're at it...why not send him how this ties back to Reagan/Poppy. After all...Corn is supposed to be one of "US" since he writes for "The Nation." Hold his feet to the fire...make him pay for trashing Helen Thomas and mentioning her in the same breath as a "GOPUSA PROSTITUTE FOR HIRE FOR THE MILITARY!" :puke:

--------------------

SEX AND THE CAPITAL

KARLYN BARKER, WASHINGTON POST, JULY 24, 1990: The alleged leader of what authorities have called the largest male prostitution operation in the Washington area surrendered to federal agents yesterday and pleaded not guilty to racketeering charges that have been filed against him and three alleged accomplices. Henry W. Vinson, 29, of Williamson, W.Va., a coal miner's son accused of setting up the homosexual escort service, was arraigned in U.S. District Court here yesterday afternoon after turning himself in to Secret Service agents . . . At a news conference after the arraignment, Stephens said the investigation into the alleged prostitution ring "is concluded" and that the indictment, which was unsealed yesterday, focused on those who allegedly set up the ring rather than on clients who reportedly patronized it. Asked about earlier reports that some of those clients included high-level officials in the Reagan and Bush administrations, Stephens said the investigation had not revealed "additional conduct which suggests criminal conduct on behalf of other people." . . . The Vinson case provoked additional notice after The Washington Times published reports last summer suggesting that the alleged prostitution ring had been patronized by government officials. The Times named as clients several low-level government employees and Craig J. Spence, a Washington lobbyist and party-giver who, the paper said, took friends and prostitutes on late-night tours of the White House. Spence was found dead in a Boston hotel room last fall, and authorities ruled his death a suicide . . . To date, however, investigators have disclosed no evidence linking any high-level government official to the escort service.

IMHO

so it has been a while since i took him seriously... i think he is probably a CIA plant.

anyone who i recognize as being well informed and carrying water for the reTHUGs anytime a real scandal threatens the WH in the M$M today i suspect as being a player on the mockingbird team.

i'm not surprised.

now i go see how predictable and consistent with the conventional wisdom of the elite he is in this article

peace

(on edit:
i notice right of the bat he doesn't deign to mention the site's name (americablog) that broke the story :eyes: though he does link to the article...

"fellow with a spotty past" - i believe the word he's looking for is PRESENT.

"So far all of the victims have deserved the whacks. Dan Rather was pigheaded and defiant" - obligatory DR ding

"CNN executive Eason Jordan did not immediately clarify, back up or retract comments" - another RW target that was a 'Fair and Ballenced" take down ;->

but he's concerned with this kook because...

"He struck me as mostly innocuous."

"Arguably, the Q&As at the White House could use more of this sort of questioning. " - must be a fan of fox news :puke:

"GOP congressional investigators" - hmmm... i wonder who they would be and why they would be immune?

"The classified memo came not from the CIA but from the State Department's Bureau of Intelligence and Research, and by the time its contents reached Gannon, Valerie Wilson (nee Plame) had already been identified as a CIA officer." - how the hell does he know, when 'jeff' refuses to identify WHO gave him the information

"Yet it could be that this story--regrettably--is mostly about a wannabe than the powers that be." - speaking of WANNABEs...

this fool makes no mention of the larger context of DECEPTION comming from this WH and it's HISTORY/BACKGROUND of not only PAYING shills/reporters but hiring ACTORS and then LYING to weTHEpeople.

FU CORN!

punk philly kid

11. Thanks, Billy...you spelled it out very well. His article sucked...
and it's sad to see it. I've worried about him since his support for Iraq Invasion...I missed his 9/11 stuff..but it's been downhill and this article was the pitts to the debths of denial.

Jeeze.....they are dropping like fly's. I think I could count less than a handful of "MS Left (supposedly media) still out there for us...

I guess it's the $$$$$$$$'s Suck up and take the dole or be "left out in the cold." :-( Anyway...you said it all...

12. It's a good thing - they are outing themselves. The more people who get
what Corn is, the better. And that goes double for Marc Cooper and Christopher Hitchens.
