Excellent anti-patriot act editorial
From Kentucky.

No one could ever accuse President Bush of lacking gall.

Days after asking for $87 billion more of taxpayers' money to fight in Iraq, he asks Americans to sacrifice more of our civil liberties.

Congress needs to say no to his request to allow law enforcement agencies to bypass a judge or a grand jury to issue subpoenas.

And lawmakers must seriously reassess just how much democracy should erode to effectively fight terrorism.

2. yeah, and this area is quite Repug, except
when it come to the Mayor. What other city would elect a single mother of middle eastern lineage?

http://www.aaiusa.org/pr/release01-07-03.htm

LEXINGTON-Teresa Isaac embarked on her journey as the first-ever Arab American mayor of Lexington, Kentucky Sunday. After Isaac was sworn in as Lexington's fifth urban county mayor, Lexington became the largest city with an Arab American mayor. Her supporters crowded the doorways and the aisles of the Kentucky Theatre during her inauguration ceremony Sunday.

Even with a good Liberal mayor, the city is conservative. Such criticism of Bush will be met with angry letters to the editor. Still, the tide is turning, democracy is not dead yet. It is up to us and those who believe as us to fight to preserve our hard won freedoms.
