Buzzflash :NYT's Editor Keller/GOP Hypocrit of Week! /Excellent Read!

So, is BuzzFlash.com being disingenuous for naming the Executive Editor of the New York Times our GOP Hypocrite of the Week?

No, not at all. Because, Bill Keller is a prime example of a mainstream newspaper editor who doesn't appear to read his own paper's editorials or learn much from its occasional news stories that point out the daily failures and lies of the Bush Administration.

Former Ambassador Joe Wilson noted that the mainstream media seems to think that presenting a fact from a critic, you need to balance it with a lie from the White House. The media pretends that they can't make a judgment between two competing claims to "facts," even when one side (the Bush "spin of the day") can easily be shown to be a lie.

Furthermore, the New York Times news pages don't in anyway take into account the unprecedented totalitarian-state-like manipulation of the media that has been undertaken by the Bush administration. On a daily basis, the New York Times news section tacitly participates in this propaganda machine, the likes of which that hasn't been around since Goebbels or the former Soviet Union.

Recently, Laurie Garrett, a courageous reporter resigned from Newsday, owned by the Tribune Corporation, because, "The leaders of Times Mirror and Tribune have proven to be mirrors of a general trend in the media world: They serve their stockholders first, Wall St. second and somewhere far down the list comes service to newspaper readerships."

3. Hey, if reporters want the "right" to protect their sources
they need to take the responsibility to report the news accurately.

They call themselves "professional journalists" so maybe we should start suing them for malpractice

5. MSM is dead. Long live the internets.
Joe Wilson hits it on the head. There is practically no true journalism left in MSM. There is only opinion from the left and right - well, more often from the moderate right and the nutwing right - which is supposed to pass as balanced journalism. Never mind that one or both sides is distorting, spinning or outright lying in order to promote their particular agenda.

Sorry, but good journalism is about digging through the junk to find the little bits of truth, then putting them all together into a compelling narrative. It's not about taking dictation, otherwise Jeff Gannon could rightly be called a journalist.

Thankfully, we have the Internet. And because the mighty corporate media are failing at their job, the Internet has begun to replace them. People in these forums are doing the hard work of journalism, finding tiny puzzle pieces of fact and putting together interesting, compelling and often shocking portraits of our leaders and their enablers. Small wonder, then, that BushCo is becoming so interested in what we're doing here and is looking for ways to restrict it.

We had better get ready to fight for the truth. This could be the last place to find any and, once it's gone, it's all over.

7. "You don't balance truth with a lie" - Cronkite - I think
What MSM is doing these days is pepering the lies with some truth so the naive can say: "But, but, but, NYT had some anti-war editorials..."
