AZ Republic : "Coulter's bid to resell McCarthy a damnable lie."

LOL! I was shocked to read this in the normally conservative AZ Republic. This editorial just makes mincemeat out of Coulter's book.

In her now-familiar sweeping, simplistic style, she rewrites a lot of history of the mid-20th century. Coulter contends liberals opposed McCarthy, J. Edgar Hoover, Richard Nixon and others because of their anti-communism.

It was Joe McCarthy's anti-communism that Democrats couldn't abide.

That's just not so.

Coulter has been dropped from our local paper, and I hope I had something to do with it. I think she really over reached this time.

Her current book has been her final demise. The more people see her on TV or read her columns, the more they realize what a crack pot she really is.

No one can take her seriously any more.

I think she's laughing all the way to the bank. She knows its crap, and can't believe she gets a ton of money for it. She gets an appearance fee on every show, doesn't she?

I am reminded of a quote from Harry Truman, describing McCarthyism:

"The use of the big lie and the unfounded accusation against any citizen in the name of Americanism or security. It is the rise to power of the demagogue who lives on untruth; it is the spreading of fear and the destruction of faith in every level of society."

And the late, great President Truman would know. He was actually there for the McCarthy dog-and-pony show.

Coulter was not.
