Where's the outrage?
When Bill Clinton lied to the American people about his relationship with Monica Lewinsky, Republicans were outraged. While I was disappointed, I found that life pretty much went on as usual.
Now George W. Bush is in office, and life is anything but usual.
Bush promised that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. Turns out, Bush was wrong. Bush said Saddam was involved with Sept. 11, 2001. Again, not true. Osama bin Laden and al-Qaida are still at large.
We've spent $200 billion and 1,500 American lives to take down a thug. That money should be used to search containers coming into this country. As it stands now, the majority of containers make it into our country without even a second glance.
Bush has promised to Leave No Child Behind, while underfunding the program by $12 billion. He has proposed sharp cuts in education, welfare, housing and the environment, while keeping the tax cuts for the wealthiest 1 percent of the population intact. Why is no one holding him accountable?
One of the worst examples is the case of Valerie Plame. Someone in Bush's administration leaked her name to the press in retaliation for her husband's criticism of Bush's policies in Iraq. Bush had done nothing to bring the person responsible for the leak to justice. Since revealing the name of a CIA agent is widely considered treason, I have to ask - where's the outrage?
This same administration is holding people right now, and has been for years, without charges or access to counsel. They are taking our rights away and calling it The Patriot Act. If a citizen prefers to keep his rights and privacy, it is asserted he must have something to hide. These are the freedoms our soldiers are fighting to uphold?
