More Manly Galloways, Fewer Slimy Colemans
If you would like a role model on how a manly person should act in front of politicians and the media, I highly recommend the Honorable George Galloway, a member of the British Parliament. A Senate subcommittee out to discredit the United Nations made the mistake of inviting Galloway to appear before its members. They had smeared him. Accusing a man of serious wrongdoing without a shred of evidence is a smear job, plain and simple. Sen. Norm Coleman, like most senators, is used to people either fawning or being timidly evasive. Boy, was he in for a surprise. Galloway landed on him like a rattlesnake.

Galloway picked their report to pieces. They claimed he had had "many meetings with Saddam Hussein." He had, in fact, only two, and he pointed out that that was the same number that Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld had during the Reagan administration. The difference, he said, is that Rumsfeld was there to sell Saddam guns, and he, Galloway, was there to promote peace and persuade him to allow U.N. weapons inspectors to come in.

He then pointed out that he had been an opponent of Saddam when the U.S. was his ally, an ally that made excuses for the gassing of Kurds, blaming those deaths on Iran. Oh, yes, I found the original story about the U.S. investigation of the gassing in The Washington Post archives years ago. Another blunder he pointed out was that the committee claimed its documents (provided by the infamous Ahmad Chalabi, who has boasted of having deceived the United States about weapons of mass destruction) were current, while the Daily Telegraph's libelous story was based on documents dating to 1992-1993. Galloway delighted in putting this lie to rest. Both sets of documents covered the same period, and there wasn't even an oil-for-food program in 1992-1993, he said.
After exposing their errors, Galloway again laced into them, pointing out that 100,000 people, including 1,600 Americans, have died because of "a pack of lies" spread by Coleman and his neocon allies.

He pointed out that during the 14 months the U.S. was in charge, $8.8 billion went missing. He pointed to the corruption of the American corporations.
The slimy Coleman tried to save face afterward by telling the press that Galloway wasn't "a credible witness." The hell he wasn't. It's Coleman and his subcommittee who lack credibility, not to mention ethics or a sense of justice.
Follow the example of a brave man. Don't let politicians or the media browbeat you, intimidate you or lie about you. Be honest. Tell the truth, and don't sugarcoat it. The world needs more Galloways and far fewer Colemans.

1. Charley Reese is again a day late and a dollar short....
...Galloway's testimony before the Coleman led senate committee was purged from the records. That testimony officially never took place.

2. Yep
We've always been at war with Eastasia, and Galloway never testified in the Senate.

"The website for the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs has removed testimony from UK MP George Galloway from its website.

All other witness testimonies for the hearings on the Oil for Food scandal are available on the Committee's website in PDF form. But Galloway's testimony is the only document not on the site.

"I have met Saddam Hussein exactly the same number of times as Donald Rumsfeld met him," Galloway told the Committee.

"The difference is that Donald Rumsfeld met him to sell him guns and to give him maps the better to target those guns."

Press representatives for the Committee had no comment."

3. OMG!!
Thank you for this horrifying post which has left my mind reeling. Am I misunderstanding/over-reacting to this? This committee has purged Galloway's testimony? Is it possible that everybody was supposed to submit written statements and Galloway didn't? ("Panel 2
George Galloway, Member of Parliament for Bethnal Green and Bow, Great Britain - Mr Galloway did not submit a statement") Is that what happened? If they are actually purging his testimony, why isn't this being covered by some news entity other than www.vnunet.com?
Um,somebody please explain to me what's going on here. I think I've lost my mind.

4. I don't know
It looks like it's the transcripts of the oral statements that are posted on that site. That's what would logically be there too. Beats me. Maybe the opening statements are usually submitted beforehand, which Galloway couldn't have done as he didn't have a script. But why wouldn't they comment on it when asked? Weird.

5. Thanks
Glad I'm not the only one who's perplexed. Any thoughts on how to get clarification of this?

6. Well, if the committee doesn't want to answer
I guess one could wait and see if someone else picks it up (the lazy approach :-)). Someone could write an e-mail to Galloway and ask him though.

7.  Video available on the site
appears to be intact with Galloway up to bat at about 1 hour-58 minutes X about 16 minutes allotted to his statement.
Am suspecting that Galloway did not submit a prepared statement. He hardly needed one, now did he? Did quite well without a cheat-sheet (tee-hee). The site says,"Publication: Hearing Publication not available until six months after the hearing date." So, am thinking there may not be anything missing and I got my panties all twisted up over nothing. At least feeling a little less psychotic at this point.
Thanks again for your replies.
