Bush Makes Republican Donor Ambassador
Seems we have hit another bump in the rocky road that is his morality. I can't believe Bush is considering a guy who's company Ameriquest is under investigation by 25 (yes, 25) state attorney generals for sketchy lending practices - the type that targets the elderly, minorities and poor. Not the kind of guy we want representing our country abroad.

Washington Post
New Envoy Is a Switch Hitter

July 25, 2005

“And so President Bush has picked Los Angeles multibillionaire Roland Arnall , a longtime major Democratic contributor until just a year ago, to a most excellent posting as ambassador to the Netherlands. How did this happen? Well, Arnall and his wife, Dawn , were the single biggest source of financial support for Bush since 2002. Over the period, they gave and raised at least $12.25 million. Arnall and his company, Ameriquest Capital Corp., are reported to have given more than $1.2 million to California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) and raised much more.”

Why is this type of corruption, 'pay to play,' legal?

2. Thank Campaign Finance Reform
Many among us supported the idea, but we have seen the results, for both parties. Don't think for a minute that big brother George Soros would not have received similar props had a W lost.

This is a sickness that both major parties suffer from. Recall the old line "Money is the mother's milk of politics".

Well, its true, and there isn't a politician out there who isn't sucking on a teat. The democrats have no moral high ground on this issue relative to republicans. Both parties are equally guilty.

The solution that neither party supports is publicly financed campaigns. No private money, and thus limits on expenditures. Either that, or allow everyone to buy votes, make the legislature a market, with all of us able to pay for what we want. Right now large organizations, be they labor, trial lawyers for us, or commerce, energy and defense for them, buy, and receive the access and thus the influence.
