Revolt of Privilege, Muslim Style

When you read reports that the Muslim terrorists who bombed the London Underground may have gotten together for a pre-attack whitewater rafting trip in Wales, you realize that this is a very particular enemy -- and one that is recognizable to students of history.

This is the revolt of the privileged, Islamic version. They have risen so far, so fast in the dizzying culture of the West that they have become enraged, disoriented and vulnerable to manipulation. Their spiritual leader is a Saudi billionaire's son who grew up with big ideas and too much money. He created a new identity for himself as a jihad leader, carrying the banner of a pristine Islam from the days of the Prophet Muhammad. The zenith of his warped amalgam of ancient and modern was having holy warriors fly airplanes into skyscrapers.

Reading some of the London bombers' biographies, you realize the depth of their cultural confusion: "Shahzad Tanweer, 23, came from one of Beeston's most respected families," wrote the London Independent about one of the July 7 bombers. And according to The Post, he had just received a red Mercedes from his dad.

What will stop this revolt of privileged Muslims? One possibility is that it will be checked by the same process that derailed the revolt of the rich kids in America after the 1960s -- namely, the counter-revolt of the poor kids. Poor Muslims simply can't afford the rebellion of their wealthy brethren, and the havoc it has brought to the House of Islam. For make no mistake: The people suffering from jihadism are mostly Muslims.

The news this morning seemed to reinforce what I have been telling friends since the bombings; That these were well to do young men who were probably involved in a "movement" but had no intention of being suicide bombers.Passions run high in young people of privilege but I thought stopped short of death. I believe that they knew that they were carrying bombs but thought that was it. Place them and leave.Now it appears that they bought round trip tickets, left no suicide notes and had about 16 more bombs in the car(which was put in long term parking).They thought that they would return to the car,pick up more bombs and set them.TOO BAD FOR THEM.A muslim buddy screwed them badly.I wonder what they said to Alla when they met him.I bet he was NOT happy. Who was supposed to be picking up the explosives left in the car parked at Luton station ?

Why did all four bombs fail to explode in the attempted second attack ?

One wonders whether the terror group has a 'Yevno Azev' in their ranks.

WASHINGTON, June 3 (Reuters) - A surge in suicide attacks in Iraq and elsewhere around the world is a response to territorial occupation and has no direct link with Islamic fundamentalism, according to the author of a new book who has created a database of such bombings over the past 25 years.

Robert Pape, associate professor of political science at the University of Chicago, said most suicide terrorists were well-integrated and productive members of their communities from working-class or middle-class backgrounds.

A broad misunderstanding of the issue, he said, is taking the U.S.-led war on terrorism in the wrong direction and could in fact be fueling an increase in suicide terrorism.
