Why Tony went to war

Terry Jones
Sunday October 5, 2003

snip................

So far I don't quite see how any of this has any bearing on his decision to attack Iraq. Doubtless he is about to explain. But wait a minute!

Suddenly the Prime Minister of Great Britain is very keen to bring us onto firmer ground. Let's forget about vague things like 'intelligence' or some 'murky' trade that we don't know much about. Let's get down to a solid fact - 'one thing we know' - something based not on 'intelligence' but on 'historical fact'. We can trust this one. This must be the key reason for going to war.

And what is it? It's that Saddam Hussein has gassed thousands of his own people. And not only that. He's lied about it!

So that's why Tony Blair decided to drop bombs on the Iraqi people - because Saddam Hussein gassed them twelve years ago.

1. I actually burst out laughing at that
OK, Tony. Whatever.

On another thread there is an article by David Korn which quotes Cheney's aides as saying he meant to say "programs" after "weapons of mass destruction." Can you believe that? That is so desperate.

Day by day they are looking even more and more ridiculous. The way bush came out and tried to claim Kay's report supports him was laughable, too.

This can't continue. I am looking forward to the day when it all comes crashing down.

2. "the vacuous, incoherent ramblings of a demagogue"
Sounds like a pretty good description of most "new" labour arguments if you ask me.

Great article. I personally took the line that terrorism and saddam had to be connected if we were to invade. However, as that link between Saddam and Al-Quaida did not exist I opposed the war very strongly. As it now stands we have not fought a war to end terror but a war to breed terror. In terms of stopping terrorism, WMD proliferation and stopping repression Blair's war has been a faliure. I guess there must be some other unsaid motive here. :eyes:

He demonstrates clearly that Tony is all talk and no sense.

8. Even when he says the right things
Tony Blair tends to be all mouth and no trousers.

4. The Amazing Terry Jones
Ever since it became clear that the invasion of Iraq was a sure thing, I've been reading Mr Jones' columns. He has been (and is) one of the most prescient and consistent voices speaking out against the insanity of expansionism.

He's one of the few people who thought it appropriate to mention the
PNAC website, for example. Why have things like this gotten so little coverage (I can't remember any mention of it in print here in North America, outside of the RADICAL newspapers I read here in Vancouver)? Oh, well. What people don't know won't hurt them, right?

And he was always my favorite Python :-)! What a great man.
