Touched by right-wing love and compassion
By ROBERT L. JAMIESON Jr.
SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER COLUMNIST

Conservatives talk about how their compassion trickles down, touching folks in a way that is fair-minded, helpful and just.
Let's take a look at a couple of cases.

President Bush the other day praised vets for setting an example of citizenship through their devotion to duty and country.

"Your sacrifice creates a debt that America can never really fully, fully repay," Bush told a convention of Veterans of Foreign Wars. Bush said his administration is going a long way toward helping elderly vets as well as younger vets fresh from war.

If this is the case, why did so many people flock to Wednesday's budget committee of the King County Council to testify about a local levy to help out veterans? Clearly, veterans have unmet needs.
