Why Nero Burned Rome, How Bush Will Let the Vultures Descend Upon NO

OpEdNews
By Rob Kall

Did Nero actually fiddle? We’ll never know for sure. But, off course, now, we have that famous photo of Bush playing a guitar, lobbying for the end of social security and estate taxes while thousands drowned. I’m going to say that Bush decided to kill these people and wipe out New Orleans. I am saying he is 100% responsible for the failures that led to the levee break and the failures to rescue the victims of the Levee Flood. I am saying that now that the disaster has occurred, Bush is the Number one Vulture.

New Orleans will be rebuilt, but it won’t be built the same as before. Maybe I’ve watched too much science fiction and read too many apocalyptic books like It Can’t Happen Here and the Librarian. But here’s what I see as New Orlean’s future.

Like the third world place it has become, a handful of wealthy people and a corrupt government will take over the entire New Orleans area. They will hand out contracts to Halliburton and whichever other big companies gave contributions to Bush.

Federal regulations will forbid small homes. The area that was flooded is prime real-estate, next to the French Quarter. It will be paved and covered with high-rise hotels, office buildings, golf courses, perhaps a shopping mall or two and a load of casinos. They’ll probably all be designed with flood resistant parking garages below flood level.

1. And Where Will The Democratic Party Be During All Of This
Edited on Mon Sep-05-05 03:07 AM by mhr
Dead on arrival.

I have become so dissatisfied with politics that I see no hope of restoring honor and dignity to public service in my lifetime.

Money and time, after the 2004 election debacle, the party will get nothing more from me.

...but New Orleans will defend itself without the help of the Democratic Party.

Don't worry--N.O. has always been a country unto itself. The damn yankees still haven't figured it out-

The highly influential" behind the scenes" leaders of the tightknit community of the Greater New Orleans Area are likely to make these carpet baggers an offer they "can't refuse" and kindly ask them to leave---if you know what I mean--

There are rich Corporate Geeks that may "try" to carpet bag but they will not succeed--there's no way outsiders can take over without close connections
-in New Orleans everyone's families have tight connections that span generations -and they won't tolerate corporate takeover attempts.

Watch the news in the near future.
headlines:Out of town business investors "missing".

That's the just way it's always worked there

3. And what can anybody do when the feds force total evacuation
They'll pay the small FEMA money to *former* residents and put contracts out to rebuild a *new* New Orleans. NOLA residents will have no say in the matter. Once they take the bucks they'll have no claim on their former properties.

The Carpetbaggers will take over and turn the whole dame city into a gentrified, Disneyfication of its former self.

4. watch how it plays out
those "behind the scenes" influential people that have run New Orleans for generations always take care of their own--from the lowest on the totem pole to the highest (unlike our fascist federal govt who takes care only of the richest)...
Many people who are not from New Orleans do not understand the way things work there.
(not to say a lot of people from there don't know this either)
These "behind the scenes" leaders of new Orleans are not stupid.
They're not letting any out of town tennis playing corporate tycoons mess with them.

We will see attempts...these attempts will be unsuccesful-

5. Night, I like your attitude, it gives me hope...
which is why can't let myself believe in it.

Time after time I have allowed myself to believe in heroes and saviors, integrity and justice, but found myself holding nothing but dust as the liars and thieves that run this world win again and again.

That being said, I hope I'm wrong this time to, and that the carpetbaggers reach in and pull back a bloody stump.

6. well . . . given that they still control EVERYTHING -- . . .
the Executive, the Legislature, the Judiciary, the military, the budgets (both "official" and black), the media, and the vote -- they can pretty much do whatever they damned well please, now can't they? . . .

8. The Roman people
hated Nero for his character, for his immodest theatrical performances, for his tyranny. They tolerated a lot of his crimes until eventually an alliance isolated him, threatened him with a certain horrible death and forced him like he done to so many others, to commit suicide. Artists and thinkers close to him died trying to overthrow him.

America's record, even skewed by a glamorous media false face, does not hold up very well in comparison. Perhaps the people tolerated or enjoyed the savage murder of Christians. Our is more sanitized and accessible from every TV and living room- shock and awe, hoo-hah, blow the legs off those kids, torture those mothers and children.

We may be different in these times, but as far as moral progress or civic responsibility, not much to boast about. Not much at all. The Neros haven't changed much except ours can't even pretend to have talent, doesn't dirty his own hands with blood and isn't quite as stylishly deranged.
