Condi and the Latte Defense

Condi Rice was on The Factor last night and had this little repartee with Bill O'Reilly:

O’Reilly: The truth of the matter is our correspondents at Fox News can’t go out for a cup of coffee in Baghdad....

Rice: Bill, that’s tough. It’s tough. But what — would they have wanted to have gone out for a cup of coffee when Saddam Hussein was in power?

Bill: No, no-but after three years you expect a little security in the country...

Condi: ...there is security...

Bill: They can't get coffee...

2. Something tells me that no one had a problem getting a cup of coffee
when Saddam was in control, and therein lies the problem.

3. When Hussein was in power, it was safe to get a cup of coffee in Baghdad
..for most people, anyway (except for militant Islamic fundamentalists).

Now it's not safe for anybody.

4. "would they have wanted to have gone out for a cup of coffee when Saddam
Hussein was in power"

Uh... maybe? :wtf: How exactly is that relevant? I'm sure people still wanted coffee occasionally despite the dictator... :eyes:

5. The truth of the matter is:
They would have wanted to have gone out for a cup of coffee when Saddam Hussein was in power. As long as they'd have all their visas and passports done properly, and paid their hotel rooms with Rupert's cc, hey: they could go out in any cafe and order any amount of coffee they'd ever wanted without being hassled by any car driver blowing off the cash register as well as all the civilian customers there!!

What boat's named after her lying s*** again??
:hurts:

7. If I'm not mistaken, Fahrenheit 9/11 has a scene...
Where a waiter fills a cup of coffee for a customer in a Baghdad diner before Shock and Awe kicked in. It was interspersed with scenes of a kid flying a kite and a man getting a haircut.

Well, maybe the waiter was filling a glass of water. But it would be pretty funny if it was coffee.

9. Condimelda explains it all for you
"Would they have wanted to have gone out for a cup of coffee when Saddam Hussein was in power?"

Terminal hubris, Condimelda. I'm watching the death of our constitution up close and personal these days - remember that silly old notion of habeas corpus? - and I still go out for coffee on occasion. I figure I better do it while I still can. Btw - what sort of accessories do you suggest with a blousy, orange ensemble? I'm fresh out of Ferragamos.
