It Makes Me Mad That I Can No Longer Read Paul Krugman ...
unless I pay "Times Select" $49.95 per year for access.

I used to be able to get at his articles here:

http://www.pkarchive.org/

but they have the most recent ones "password protected by TimesSelect."

I hope someone has access to TimesSelect and can copy and paste as much of his columns as it is legal to do here.

14. Only until the NYT gets wind of it.
Same way they shut down pkarchive.org and timesunion.com

They're being very aggressive in protecting their investment; it wouldn't surprise me if they've got an intern on staff doing nothing but searching the web for links to all their Op-Ed columnists.

4. I saw a recent column on buzzflash.com
also on smirkingchimp

That may have changed in the last couple of days.

Paul is one of the major reasons I am a daily subscriber to NYT.

I hate that this new policy is going to limit his exposure to exactly the people who need to read him.

6. The WSJ charges for their news content.
The opinion columnists are available for free, they want people to be able to read their RW op-eds.

7. Why do you think you should be able to read him for free?
Just curious.

I can't believe we were able to do so for as long as we could.

Remember, you vote when you spend your money or click on a site. Clicking on Krugman's columns - and being willing to pay for them - is a double vote for Krugman.

No, I don't click on Tierney.

18. Yes, but I doubt that the NYT is paying him any more
than they used to when their content was still free online.

10. NYT knows they will lose readership.
I believe that the NYT and BushCo. wanted desperately to muzzle Krugman and others without appearing to do so. Voila! They are now behind a pay wall. I do think it will be amusing to watch the NYT try and chase all the bloggers that post Krugman's stories. Bloggers could each reprint a paragraph of his column and we could have an endless "krugman ring" that would be impossible to stop. I could be wrong, but the NYT's decision to put up a pay wall in the face of other profitable models is suspect. It could also be a colossal error like "new coke".

15. How long before they offer "specials"
for $20/year - or go the Salon route of daily passes after seeing ads??

I think it will take them nearly a year to admit their folly.

...and post the name and password here in Editorials & Other Articles so anyone can use it.

Sorry, too busy & broke right now, though. (Sheeeeeeeesh, anyone paid for an appraisal recently? Mortgage points? Moving truck rental? Ay-yi-yi!)

apologetically,
Bright
