George Will (!) Slams DeLay and other Faux Conservatives

I don't like Mr. Will, but, in this case, he's right.

Where the hell was Will when he could have used his voice to stop this crap before it created the damage it has? Band-wagon George. Fuck him.

Will should just STFU and go hide his face in shame. All the RW pundits that defended this guy and his war should lose their jobs. They were and still are fools despite any change of heart they've had and a fool's opinion shouldn't be printed in a daily or weekly column of a news paper. A fool's opinion shouldn't be given national attention of any kind.

You might recall the magazine that used to track journalism (what the hell was it's name?) had a regular feature that had the Sunday morning pundits predicting events pitted against a chimp...and that the chimp was much more accurate in his predictions than George Will...

Now, that they're toilet swimming - he's seen the light.

Will is exactly right. Regardless of whether we agree with them or not (I sure don't), the point is that most Reps are falsely calling themselves "conservatives". H*ll, I am more conservative than a lot of them. For some fundies like DeLay or Santorum, their view of expanded government would even make a hard core liberal blush.

I used to have arguments with a hard core conservative that I worked with in Texas. Ultimately frustrating guy who hated all things democrat. Heck, he didn't even think DeLay's power grab in Texas was anything to get worked up over. Anyway, he always said that he was confident that the Reps would stay in power until they got too greedy or arrogant as the Dems had done prior to 94. Welllllll....looks like we are getting awfully close.

It looks like we might be getting to a point where a cactus could beat some of these Reps in the next election. But the question remains....are any Democrats more appealing than the cactus??

I have never agreed on so many points with Will. Ever. Of course he doesn't go into policy suggestions or solutions, and were he to do so I am sure we would disagree - but on this critique - I have to agree with him.

The schism between the two groups has been interesting
to watch. David Brooks articulated it last night
on Lehrer's show...conservatives think/thought
the Republican party was stupid. The division
seems to be between the conservative intelligensia
(Brooks and Will put themselves in that catagory)
and the fundie rightwingnuttery and the RNC wheels
that kowtow to them for votes.

When will the fundies wake up?

While I am glad that Mr. Will has written this article, and that this article both displays and increases the divisions between true conservatives and greedy and corrupt pseudo-conservatives such as Mr. Bush and Mr. DeLay, even here Mr. Will displays his prejudices, and (literally) prejudges at least one important issue in a way where I believe he makes a serious error:


"The indictments of DeLay—although certainly political in terms of the prosecutor's motive and probably unjust as a matter of law—are, considered solely in terms of their consequences, helpful to conservatives."


I, perhaps displaying my prejudices, think that Mr. Earle is acting properly, and I hope he can present the facts to obtain convictions.
