Howard Kurtz, Media WHORE: Radio Silence
http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A19276-2003Oct13?language=printer

<snip>

The tut-tutting is already under way. He's a hypocrite, his detractors say, a motormouth moralizer who was quietly breaking the law. He doesn't deserve our compassion because he shows so little for his opponents.

"There's no question his hypocrisy is relevant to the story," Enquirer Editor David Perel told me.

Well, maybe.

But that would be a mistake. I suspect most people, even those who can't stand the guy, will see a man struggling with his personal demons, and be careful about condemning him for his weakness. Liberals who believe addiction is a disease, who defend coked-up Hollywood stars in rehab -- Rob Lowe, Aaron Sorkin and a host of others -- will look hard-hearted themselves if they use a different standard for their nemesis.

<more>

(So we're hard-hearted if we point out the hypocrisy
of the PigMan? ROTFLMAO.)

2. Here's what I don't get.
If you are in the business of prescribing harsh rules that "everyone should live by", you should be willing to live by them, strictly, yourself. If you aren't willing to, then you have absolutely no moral standing for your position. If everybody needs to do it, you do too. If not, then cram your moralizing.
This really makes me too steamed. People like Herr Limbaugh want their rules for us, and our rules for them. Inhumanly high standards for everyone but themselves.

3. Well, I'm not a Liberal Howie, and I think Rush should get the same
treatment a poor black man would get if he were caught doing drugs. What goes around comes around. If the penalties are not the same for both ends of the spectrum, nothing changes. So either change the laws for everyone, or shut your yap.

4. amen
it's not about the addiction stupid, it's about
breaking laws and doing the time for the crime.

Of course he was a hypocrite also, railing against
the drug users and not revealing his own use.

5. Just turn it around...
...what Kurtz says regarding liberals who want to see Limbaugh punished:

"But that would be a mistake. I suspect most people, even those who can't stand the guy, will see a man struggling with his personal demons, and be careful about condemning him for his weakness. Liberals who believe addiction is a disease, who defend coked-up Hollywood stars in rehab -- Rob Lowe, Aaron Sorkin and a host of others -- will look hard-hearted themselves if they use a different standard for their nemesis."

...what I say regarding conservatives who don't want to see Limbaugh punished:

"But that would be a mistake. I suspect most people, even those who love the guy, will see a man who has knowingly broken the law, and be careful about singling him out for special treatment. Conservatives who believe addiction is a criminal issue, who would throw the book at poor drug abusers -- crack-addicted mothers, poor blacks and a host of others -- will look hypocritical themselves if they use a different standard for their hero."

9. "but it's also one heckuva story."
Don't overlook the rest of the article. Quoting David Frum

""Meanwhile the Wilson story tops the news. The Wilson story excites journalists because it accuses the Bush administration of abusing its powers for political advantage - and there is nothing that journalists enjoy more than abuse-of-power stories, at least during Republican administrations. The Wilson story ratifies journalists' prejudices, and so journalists revel in it."

Maybe, but it's also one heckuva story."

If even Howie smells blood and is willing to say in public that it's a heckuva story it isn't good news for the shrub.

If the corportate media and the CIA both will pursue this traitorous act by one of shrub's top people maybe we can bring him down early.

My fondest dream is that he be impeached. Then convicted of war crimes. Then spend the next 40 years behind bars. I want him to live a long time there.
