Dean’s party: Howard is more than just hype

HOWARD DEAN is for real. The Democratic Presidential aspirant and former Vermont governor has shocked the Democratic Party establishment by all but running away with the nomination three and a half months before the New Hampshire primary. How he was able to do this is a mystery to the party’s leadership, though it shouldn’t be.

A lot of Democratic Party leaders are at a loss to understand how Dean could have come out of nowhere to achieve a sustained lead over the more established candidates. The full answer to this question is complex and would require more space than we have here. Suffice it to say that, in a nutshell, Dean has tapped into two core resentments that many in the Democratic Party share.

Chief among these is a deep hatred of President Bush and the war in Iraq. Kerry, Edwards, Lieberman and Gephardt all voted for the war and have not consistently opposed Bush. This is only part of the picture, however. Many in the Democratic Party’s base also resent Bill Clinton for spending eight years compromising with the Republicans. They see candidates such as John Kerry, John Edwards, Joe Lieberman and Dick Gephardt as collaborators with the Republican enemy — as moderates who will say and do whatever it takes to stay in office.

The reason Gov. Dean is ahead in the polls is because of very hard work on his part and his staff. When you meet this man in person you can feel the genuine caring he has for the job he has decided to take on. He is very sincere, focused and ready to give everything of himself to "take our Country back". I have been in the same room with him 9 or 10 times and each and every time I get uplifted by him and am re-engerized to go out and spread the word of this candidate.

I'm heading to New Hampshire to canvas for him over Nov 15-16. My birthday gift to him. I'll also be there in December and 3 times in January.

Good luck in Iowa. He's in a tight race with Gephardt. At least in NH, Dean has a little breathing room.

Some of us don't find it necessary to tear down other candidates in order to build up our own.

There was a woman who came in the Co-op today and saw my Dean Pin and said .."ah ..smart lady...likes Dean! She said she's just heard Dean on TV and says he's saying what she's thinking!

I gave her Dean's website and told her about the Meetups the first Wed in every month! She was very excited and it really feels good to share that with a stranger.

I'm going to have to remember my Dean button more often. There are some places I go which are inappropriate (court), and I don't actually get out much to many other places, so I'm going to have to make a concerted effort to "remember" when I do get out.
