Bush squanders Argentina's summit opportunity to mend fences
Bush squanders Argentina's summit opportunity to mend fences

Nov 7, 2005 - 09:35 -

Abu Dhabi, 7 Nov. 05 (WAM) -- The Bush administration has lost a valuable opportunity at the Americas summit in Argentina to mend fences with its neighbours, a UAE daily paper reported.

''The historic Americas summit in Argentina has been marred by violent anti-US, and anti-Bush demonstrations.

Hundreds of protesters ran riot in the city throwing stones at police just blocks away from the summit attended by 34 American leaders including the US president, according to Khaleej Times.

The paper said in its daily comment that ''the violent protests not only illuminate the growing gulf between the US and other countries in the region, they spotlight the ''popularity'' of President George W Bush. Thus a summit, that could have provided the US the much-needed opportunity to mend fences with its neighbours and resolve crucial economic and political issues, has been wasted.

2. One of the MSNBC reporters was laughing about the protests...
...not one of the "big name" talking heads, one of the obscure "in the field" drones.

She laughed out loud several times when questioned about the protests, saying "Bush won't even SEE this! He's nowhere NEAR it, he won't be driving THROUGH it, and he'll probably ONLY see it the way the REST of us will...on TV"

Then she cackled some more.

3. My take on this:
Bush is at his weakest when dealing with foreign countries. I truly believe this is his Achilles' Heel. He just folds, doesn't know what to do when faced with ferocious protests.

I think most of the time he just hides out and pretends it doesn't exist. But I've noticed that it really does bother him. Does anybody remember the photo of Bush visiting Ireland, about 3 years ago? Bush was going to spend the night at some Irish castle. Some tabloid photographer snapped a picture of Bush standing by the window, in his underwear.

The photo was funny and it caused a sensation in England. But I didn't care about Bush's undies. I just looked at his face, as he was pulling the blind down. His face was paralyzed with fear. It was so clear to me: Bush HATES being out of his element, where the world is so unruly and unpredictable.

And that world HATES George Bush.

4. He was not curious about other countries prior to his presidency and
is even less curious now-unless it involves his agenda.
