Bush's Tortured Logic

By Dan Froomkin

<snip> News outlets all over the world reported Bush's words as if they were definitive. But they are in fact enigmatic at best, because it's not at all clear what the president's definition of torture is. <snip>

But if we don't torture, then why is the White House fighting tooth and nail against a law that would say as much? Why are those prison camps secret? And what are we to make of the widespread, documented practice of prisoner abuse? Bush wouldn't say. And he didn't take any follow-up questions. <snip>

Kenneth R. Bazinet writes in the New York Daily News: ... "But on the same day that Bush disavowed the use of torture, new allegations of prisoner abuse by U.S. troops erupted in Baghdad." <snip>

1. No problems. This is an easy one.
Answer = Bush lies. He lies the moment he wakes up in the morning. When he looks in the mirror as he's brushing his teeth, he tells a few lies just to get started.

After lying for so many years, Bush doesn't know how to tell the truth. It's simply impossible for him.

3. the spin on that was that it was glorified 'frathouse' style hazing
Rush and the rest of the shills were spewing that, at least.

4. What Bush does to others, he says others may do to us.
I think that the most frightening thing about the message that Bush is giving the world is this:

He is telling them, by our actions, how Americans may be treated.

Whatever we do to foreign nationals that we capture, we are telling the world that they may do to Americans that they capture. If they should repeat our actions, any protest that we launch would be pointless.

They can simply answer, "We are following exactly the same policies that you established. Only a hypocrite can tell us that we do wrong when we do exactly what he does."

I don't know why but, for some reason, that worries me.
