Nissan Quality Control
"Quality problems with vehicles made at Nissan North America's Canton, Miss., assembly plant are continuing to haunt the automaker.

Consumer Reports magazine announced yesterday that it has put the Nissan Titan pickup, Armada sport utility vehicle, Quest minivan and Infiniti QX56 SUV on its list of vehicles with the largest potential for problems in the 2006 model year.

All four are assembled at the Canton plant, which opened in 2003.

Nissan has spent a good part of this year and last working to improve quality problems with its Mississippi-made vehicles. It sent in teams of engineers from Japan to try to improve design and manufacturing processes to help the vehicles score better with consumers." <...>

"The message to consumers is clear: You can't gauge reliability based only on a nameplate. Some automakers do have a better track record, but individual models — especially newer ones — can have problems," said David Champion, senior director of Consumer Reports' Auto Test Center in Connecticut.

Not a good sign for the automaker...

1. There was an auto company that chose Canada over the USA...
because they found that Americans were underqualified to work in their new plant. I forget which company now.

2. Interesting
I think this is what happens when you try and hire unskilled workers on the cheap.

From what I know these Japanese plants (ala Wal- Mart) are trying to cut corners by avoiding hiring any union auto workers.

Well it looks like you reap what you sow...Nissan!

3. Well, I can't speak as to those particular models, but I can say that
my previous Sentra ran for 7 years with NO mechanical problems at all, until 2 weeks before I traded it in, and the started finally wore out.

My replacement Sentra ran for about 4 years before the break calipers completely froze up in the rear and I had to spend about $1,000 to fix my breaks. Apparently the calipers are problematic on the newer model Sentras (this coming from a small-town garage that does lots of my mechanic work).

5. Hmmmm...
Seems to me to be a case of cutting one to many corners.

6. Agreed.
I was HUGE Nissan fan until that happened, now I'm just a moderate Nissan fan :).

Honestly, I still love the car and would definitely look at Nissan before I looked at anything else if I were shopping again. This is a huge leap over my 1990 Toyota that blew a crankshaft 3 months outside of the warranty.

8. Greedy manufacturers...
You would think they would be able to produce a decent car with all of the breaks they are getting (from the US govt, alone).

It seems it wasn't good enough. And it caught up with them...
