American Police State: The Frog Has Cooked
How do you boil a frog?

You don't throw the frog into a pot of boiling water, it would immediately jump out. You let the frog sit in warm water and slowly heat the pan until the frog boils to death.

How do you erect the infrastructure of a police state?

You incrementally condition both the police and the public that relinquishing liberty in the name of security is necessary because 'we live in dangerous times.'

Be sure to make Grandpa remove his shoes at the airport but let that cargo through without inspection every time. The truth is that the mythical 'war on terror' was never meant to be won and can never be won because it doesn't exist.

The real terror is being waged against ordinary people by our own government...

1. Chilling.
Even more so because most people will read it, shudder faintly, yawn, and go on about their daily business.

So much for the "land of the free."

2. I see it all too often
Living in and around Washington, D.C., you know what living in a police state is. The day before the coronation (excuse me, I mean inauguration), there was easily a ratio of 1 cop for every 10 people. Intimidation much?

I was commuting through the Pentagon subway station a few months ago, where you grow accustomed to having AK-47's pointed in your face on a regular basis, and a woman next to me was passing by two Pentagon cops one of whom was holding a huge german shephard on a leash. They were yucking it up, not paying much attention and the dog, I'm guessing, smelled something good in the woman's lunch as she walked by, and he made a little jump at her. You can imagine her reaction, stopped cold, scared shitless, then shocked, then pissed, all within about 10 seconds. But of course she could do nothing, she just kept walking(to add to the imagery, she was an African American). The cop had a kind of sardonic look on his face, like "oops, shit happens".

All I could think the whole rest of the day was I'm living in frickin' Nazi Germany.

7. I too live right outside DC, I know first hand its become a police state
Just this weekend a friend of mine told me a story of how literally 25 officers raided his house in takoma park. It was at 5 in the morning, he told me how he awoke surrounded by police officers pointing their guns in his face. They were in full riot gear, with body armor and police sheilds. He was of course terrified. He went on to tell me how his friend was grabbed by his waist and shoulders and was physically thrown to the ground. They were of course unarmed. They're going to court this week.

And the best part? This was all over 6 grams of marijuana!

Welcome to Amerika.
Land of the elite, home of the slaves.

Iris scans to aid Marion police work

Biometric system will aid in locating and recovering missing children

CARA ROBERTS MUREZ
Statesman Journal

November 30, 2005

The Marion County Sheriff's Office received a new tool Tuesday that officials hope will help identify lost children.

Like something out of a science-fiction movie, the camera, laptop and software use Iris Recognition Biometric Technology to photograph an eye's iris and store its unique markings in a database.

......

Mullin estimates that it will take three to five years to build a database of 3 million to 5 million children and senior citizens.

9. It took me almost a year to get off the no-fly list ...
My first and last names are both extremely common names, apparently they had crossed database with someone else. I'm told this has happened to literally thousands of people.
