'Democrats Need More Will Rogers, Less Michael Moore'
Republicans have been embarrassed by scandal after scandal, there's no end in sight in Iraq, and the president's poll numbers are so bad that even the unpopular Arnold Schwarzenegger wouldn't be seen with him a few weeks ago.

Does the GOP have the Democrats right where they want them?

3. How about both....it would be nice to have two commentators
who speak for us: Michael is terrific, Will Rogers is dead. Who is stepping forward for the home-spun stuff?

5. Blueprint for Progress and Winning - Keep IT Simple DEMS, BE YOURSELVES.
Will Rogers and Michael Moore each have their valid points to make, but DEMS need to fortify their own spines with their own beliefs and not be ANY KIND of Copy Cat of ANY Vogue at ANY time.

We need to keep the Paul Hackett type of politicians in the running and quit playing games. The man came in with honesty and some solid plans that had come to him from direct experience.

The REAL REASON the DEMS and the Labor Movement had such success for such a long time is that the COMMON Man is the one GETTING THE JOB DONE on a day to day basis and the Labor Movement gave them a voice to be heard over the corporate leadership that would simply voice profit over people every time.

Since we have become a Corptocracy, the same rules of success can apply. We need to do the things that give WE THE PEOPLE empowerment again. We need to as DEMS restore Democracy. And different people will have differnt parts of the solution, but as long as it is really working to restore Democracy in the US it is a valid Democratic platform.

We have to allow ourselves to be creative and individual and quit looking for some cookie cutter miracle. The rethugs made that work because they found a way to get their people to lobotomize themselves. That won't EVER work for any permanent solution unless we want someone else telling us exactly how to live our lives.

imho.

9. Wow TG-- THAT'S THE SPIRIT!!!!!!!!! K&Nom
This message needs to be at the top of every page of DU.

This sort of common person voice (and common people speaking up) will win-- and will draw those Independents and non-voters who are sick of the subterfuge and marketing-speak.

10. How many times will we kick our best and brightest so we please the
abusers? You think they'll beat us less often if we attack Michael Moore?

For thosse who do, a little reminder from Grover Norquist:

"Once the minority of House and Senate are comfortable in their minority status, they will have no problem socializing with the Republicans. Any farmer will tell you that certain animals run around and are unpleasant, but when they've been fixed, then they are happy and sedate. They are contented and cheerful. They don't go around peeing on the furniture and such."

14. I believe you're right...
Michael Moore has done a lot to put the administration's failures in the spotlight, and we need him. We also need the Jim Hightowers and the Molly Ivins. There's plenty of room for both in the Democratic party.

By the way...welcome to DU:hi: :hi: :hi: :hi: :hi: :hi:

Thanks for sharing.

Schweitzer's popularity is evidence that programs that put people first work politically.

His administration is pursing ambitious energy plans to promote wind power, biodiesel and clean coal, as well as a health insurance program that pays 50 percent of the costs for small businesses.

Schweitzer also created a quintessentially Western program to protect the vulnerable during Montana's brutal winters. "Warm Hearts for Warm Homes" has spurred weatherizing of homes and set up a neighborhood monitoring system. "We have neighbors calling on neighbors," he told Democrats in neighboring Idaho Tuesday night. "We will not leave anyone behind."

Convinced that Democrats can unite around, and win with, the principles that underpin such policy choices, Schweitzer told the Idaho Dems that the Republican lock on values can be broken. "I have a philosophy about elections," he said. "I believe issues divide and values unite."

This guy has the right idea. We can win on VALUES, and frankly we can highlight the Katrina disaster to show a difference in priority.

Recommended.

16. Michael Moore was squaring off againt bush** and the Iraq war long
before most people ever had the nerve to even consider the wrongs and the rights of the situation. He damn well stood in front of the Academy Awards and said what anyone with a conscience would have said if they would have had the courage of their convictions. And let us not forget Farhenheit 9/11 and what it did to open the eyes of people everywhere.

I refuse to bad mouth the man now.

17. Why mischaracterize Michael Moore to make this point?
"The West is proof that the values Democrats hold most dear - fairness, equity in education and health care, respect for the environment - have allies in unlikely places. When they lose the effete bi-coastal image and learn the robust lessons of Western life - when they speak more like Will Rogers and less like Michael Moore - they win."

Does he mean the chubby Midwestern guy who dresses in flannels and sports a scruffy beard, the gun-owning NRA member, the plain-speaking populist not afraid to stand up to big business for the people, Michael Moore?

Or does he mean the straw-man-created-and-called-Michael Moore-cuz-he-wants-to-jump-on-the-wingnut-bandwagon Michael Moore?

I think he's talking about the latter Michael Moore. I agree we need less of him.

Does Michael Moore strike anyone as "bi-coastal effete"? WTF?
