European. And I've always thought Europeans tended to underestimate Americans. What short memories the questioner and some of those historians must have! Remember the debates?

thing I've usually had to say in general conversation is "I didn't vote for him!!" to show that I wasn't an Idiot American, and that I got what most Europeans got, too. In fact, at the pubs, I was usually the one leading the anti-Bush conversations.

but this guy's a very worldly-wise journalist, so you have to wonder about his integrity, and whether the question is itself a damage-limitation meme, don't you? As if there were any question.

The new Repug talking point, "Bush is actually SMART" would seem to confirm as much. They are clearly disturbed by the commonly-held, shall we say, "negative assessment" of his mental aptitude.

It's an editorial, but still nice to see it in print.
