Author's Defense Of McCarthyism Misfires, Alienates Many On Right
Ann Coulter wields the word "liberal" like an unholy epithet, and until now, the right-wing pundit and author has been able to dismiss criticism of her work as little more than the grumblings of bitter, jealous lefties.

The book has been getting almost universally negative reviews, but Coulter says that's just more liberal baloney. As she said in an interview this week, "Liberals have been hysterical about McCarthy for 50 years, and no one's been arguing back with them. I'm the first one to argue back, so I'm not surprised in the least."

Conservative author David Horowitz, who publishes Coulter's column on his online magazine Front Page, recently wrote that "Treason" fails "to draw a clear line between satirical exaggeration and historical analysis" and "gives credibility to liberal attacks."

And last week, Dorothy Rabinowitz, a member of the Wall Street Journal's extremely conservative editorial board, wrote that Coulter's book, which is not meant to be funny, had her laughing derisively before she finished the acknowledgements page.
