Hillary abandons liberal principals - again
O Hillary! Why hast thou abandoned your liberal base? Richard Cohen says it far better than I ever could:

“Along with Sen. Robert Bennett, a Utah Republican, she has introduced a bill that would make flag burning illegal. It is probably important to note that this is not a proposed constitutional amendment, and it is written in a cutesy way that does not explicitly outlaw all flag burnings -- just those intended to "intimidate any person or group of persons." That's a distinction without a difference to your average police officer. Not many cops belong to the ACLU.”
***
“She has also articulated a moderate, somewhat ruminative position on abortion. It is rueful, insistent on "choice" but regretful about abortion in general. The same holds for the war in Iraq. Clinton voted to authorize it, and she has yet to call for a pullout of U.S. troops.”
***
“Consistency is not always to be admired in a politician, but when a supposed liberal is one of only two senators to sponsor a bill to restrict freedom of speech, then we are talking about something basic. If this is a pander, it is in the worst possible taste.

The First Amendment is where you simply do not go. It is sacred. It protects our most cherished rights -- religion, speech, press and assembly -- and while I sometimes turn viscerally angry when I see the flag despoiled, my emotions are akin to what I feel when neo-Nazis march. Repugnant or not, popular or not, it is all political speech. Her sponsorship of the flag measure calls for reconsideration all around -- either by Hillary Clinton and her support of the flag bill or by liberals and their support of her.”

I am hopeful that Ms. Clinton remains on the sidelines in 2008, because her ‘Joe-mentum’ with this liberal has departed.

9. Hillary's NOT running in 2008...she's running IN 2006
Our 2008 nominee will possibly be Governor Mark Warner.

I'm happy with Mark Warner, John Edwards or Wesley Clark.

Hillary won't be the 2008 nominee, so I don't know why people get so worried about this!

2. It certainly begs the question, is there ANYTHING she won't do...
to win (or, rather, do what she THINKS she can do to help her win)? The First Amendment is pretty important, to state things mildly.

4. Hillary is not to be trusted.
Unlike the repugnicans, we see through her duplicitousness. If she ever were to gain the presidency, I doubt strongly she would become a progressive voice. I also hope she is not nominated.

5. I agree with you
but I also insist on choice without wholeheartedly embracing abortion as a means of birth control, I regret that sometimes abortions are necessary, but Choice is non-negotiable and having an abortion must not earn you a scarlet letter....

I have never wanted to burn the American Flag. But, if you make it a sacrosant idol under law, I'm pulling out the bic lighter....

Running Hillary will take us down the same path as the Whigs.....toodle-oo.

6. ONE MORE TIME: H Clinton is NOT A LIBERAL
She was a good pubbie daughter of pubbie parents who changed party when she married an ambitions Democrat.

She's great representing the wealthier yuppies of NY. Just don't expect her to represent any of US.

7. Go away Hillary
does anybody need any further proof that she is a panderer. She will keep letting corperations run rough-shot over the country. They will continue to weaken unions, cut benefits and pensions and Hillary WON'T care. She's all cool about further restricting our civil liberties. Mrs. Repuke-lite boasts herself as a centrist in a time when the "center" is further to the right than any time in modern history. This woman needs to shut the Fuck up!

8. Would you prefer that a FULL-ON Republican take the NY Senate seat?
Hillary is up for re-election next year, New York isn't just NYC, it also includes Upstate New York...and Hillary needs to win there too.

She is doing the things that ALL elected politicians do prior to a re-election year, she's trying to gain swing votes. If her moves pad her vote and help her get solidly re-elected and thus we KEEP that New York Senate seat, then good.

Yes, she's signed onto this flag burning Amendment...it's hardly as if she's out there signing on to privatize Social Security, now is it? Were she doing the LATTER, then yes, I'd be EXTREMELY pissed off...but she's not.

I'm a Centrist Democrat, and I think we're still where we were when President Clinton was in office, we're still in the Center.

10. By the way, Hillary just voted NO on The Patriot Act Cloture motion
A Repuke NY Senator would have voted YES on the same Cloture motion.

The Hillary bashing amazes me. Why don't y'all direct your bashing to someone who ACTUALLY deserves a damn good repeated bashing:

Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska, he is ACTUALLY a Repuke don't you know...and he's just voted YES on the Patriot Act Cloture motion, voted yes with his fellow Repukes.

EVEN Joe Lieberman has just voted NO!!

12. I like Hillary even if she is not lockstep liberal - Center left Dem Gov
would be a great improvement - and might actually get elected - if we can stop vote stealing.

:-)
