In 1914, Christmas Carols stopped a World War.
There's an interesting article about it in todays Independent:
http://news.independent.co.uk/europe/article334971.ece

After the carols got the Christmas Vibe going, soldiers from opposite sides stopped shooting at each other, sang together, traded little gifts and played a game of soccer. Of course the political leaders didn't allow the truce to last past Christmas

This brief grassroots truce movement was an interesting forshadowing of how more tennacious music-fueled activism was able to stop the Vietnam War several decades later.

Many indie musicians today want to do the same thing, and we've rallied together to create a site with music, text and pictures in this good cause: http://artistlaunch.com/artist.asp?artistid=7635

1. The political leaders also made sure there was no similar
Christmas truce the following year during WWI.

2. More tripe...
This myth has been around for years.. even years ago, the press loved to invent sentimental stories to make the masses happy. Be careful what you believe!

3. It is NOT tripe, and it was NOT invented by the press.
Snopes tells the story here:

http://www.snopes.com/holidays/christmas/truce.asp

They do very good research and are highly skeptical folks. If anyone is suspicious of a feel-good story that seems too good to be true, too much like a story people just want to believe rather than one that really happened, it's them. So, if they say it's so, it's a safe bet that it's so.

Sometimes truth IS stranger than fiction.
