The movement against Bechtel (which was trying to charge peasants money for gathering RAINWATER), which catapulted Morales into office was a very good thing for Bolivia and South America--a sort of "Declaration of Independence" from global corporate predators. Those among the middle and upper classes who believe democracy and the rule of law cannot fault him. He is the real thing--Bolivia's majority indigenous population finally come into its own.
