GREAT Evo Morales Editorial Cartoon from Bolivian Newspaper

The newspaper is 'La Razon.'
The satchel around his shoulders is a the typical manner in which the natives carry coca leaves around. I also am a bit curious about bow that the businesmen are showing - reminds me of 'October' by Eisenstein.

2. My interpretation of the businessmen bowing is that the "suits"
(the white guys who run business and politics) have to acknowledge the overwhelming win of this canny peasant, on their turf, in their terms. 55% of the vote in a field of eight. Biggest vote for a president ever in Bolivia.

His vow to end the murderous US-backed "war on drugs", his campaigning with a wreath of pure coca leaves around his neck, and his statement that "I am the United States' worst nightmare"--were a real gauntlet thrown, to the "powers that be" in South American rich elites and their "big brother" ally to the north. The movement against Bechtel (which was trying to charge peasants money for gathering RAINWATER), which catapulted Morales into office was a very good thing for Bolivia and South America--a sort of "Declaration of Independence" from global corporate predators. Those among the middle and upper classes who believe democracy and the rule of law cannot fault him. He is the real thing--Bolivia's majority indigenous population finally come into its own.

And a beautiful thing it is! Viva Evo!
