One which just happened to have hired a former aide of Burns' as a lobbyist.
http://www.billingsgazette.com/index.php?display=rednews/2006/01/14/build/state/35-tribal-money.inc Burns decided to give the $101,000 in question to charity and donated it to the Montana Wyoming Tribal Leaders Council. Stan Ullman, who was Burns' legislative assistant and worked in his Washington office for four years, is registered as that group's only lobbyist.
Burns also gave the group $10,000 he had received directly from Abramoff and an associate. When announcing in December that he would return that money, Burns said he had "instructed my staff to work with the Montana Wyoming Tribal Leaders Council to identify an appropriate Native American charitable entity to which the contributions received directly from Mr. Abramoff and his associates may be donated."
Instead, that money also went directly to the Montana Wyoming Tribal Leaders Council. Burns Campaign Chairman Mark Baker said the senator decided to "rely on (the council's) judgment to how best to use those resources" and that Ullman had nothing to do with the decisions.
Gee, instead of giving the $$ back to the groups which gave it at the urging of Abramoff, Burns pleads there
may be some legal problem with giving it back to the real contributors so he's gonna give it to
charity. He is not the only republican pulling this stunt. But,
he decided to give to a charity which just happens to employ a former aide of his as a lobbyist!Sounds like there might be a chance for
more money laundering as soon as the spin cycle on this batch is done.
Somebody, puh-leeze call the Maytag Repairman! Maybe HE can do something about the machine that is stuck on launder, spin, rinse through a buddy's hands, lather and repeat....
