The Breathtaking Magnitude of George Bush's Foreign Policy Incompetence
That's the title of James Kroeger's latest blog entry. He does a great job summarizing Bush's incredible stupidity in foreign affairs. I think even Hillary would have to agree with his points.

An excerpt:

Well, if it wasn’t for the deadly seriousness of everything that’s going on in the Middle East, it would almost be funny. George Bush, the world’s most notable champion of Democracy, got his wish this week. He had been pressuring the Palestinian people to embrace democracy for years and they have finally responded by giving a great electoral victory to Hamas, a political group that our government has identified as a terrorist organization.

So instead of seeing Democracy transform the Middle East into a land of helpful allies who might be eager to assist us in our war on terror, it has instead helped to legitimize the stature of Islamist militants in the region. Like it or not, it is now far more believable that Iran’s current ‘radical’ President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was elected in a fair and democratic manner.

Bringing democracy to Muslim nations has simply served to add greater legitimacy to their complaints about us. What kind of foreign policy is that? Please help me to understand, George. I’m having difficulty grasping why a policy (the ‘Bush Doctrine‘) that ends up enhancing the stature and reputation of radical Islamic militants is supposed to be helpful to us in our efforts to protect ourselves from the actions of Islamic militants?

(Some would say your actions are those of a traitor. I’m simply accusing you of the kind of incompetence that gets people killed.)

1. When you have an idiot in charge, you get idiotic results
Bush's war in Iraq has killed far more people than Saddam ever did.

3. * has certainly made the hands of time come to a stand still........
in the Middle East. With Hamas's new election victory, they plan to incorporate Islamic law based on Sharia into the governing law structure. We now have a foreign policy that promotes the growth of Islamic fundamentalism through the democratic election process. Ballots are replacing bullets to strike out at the US & Israel. How could this happen? Who has been asleep at the switch? We have now been placed in the position that we must entreat with the terrorists. Bush is now becoming the father of the new Middle East Taliban extremism.

4. So what is wrong with that?
I believe its always better to know what people honestly think. If Hamas is the honest expression of the will of the Palestinian electorate, why shouldn't they govern? And if Hamas continues to promote the destruction of Israel, and act accordingly, the Europeans and Americans will cut off aid.

The West subsidized the PA for years, and look where we are now. Democracy in the Middle East is not always pretty, but why not give it a try?
