I emailed this letter to the editor after reading this ridiculous article by Townhall columnist Kathleen Parker. I think it kinda nails it good. Where I live, Eastern Washington, is fairly "red" but more libertarian than fundamentalist and most assuredly felt the energy crunch that started during Enron and continues today
here's her original article

In your Saturday Feb. 18th editorials, Kathleen Parker, a syndicated conservative columnist, lambasted former Vice President Al Gore for his recent speech in Jeddah. Now, like all good supporters of the current Administration, Ms. Parker neglected to mention a few key facts regarding Saudi Arabia and Islamic Fundamentalism. She forgot that the key to policy doesn't begin with a former Vice President, but instead begins with a sitting President. She forgot that rather than move us closer to energy independance, the Bush administration has moved us into record oil and gas prices, which many of you feel at the pump. She forgot that drilling in Alaska is a pipe dream of conservatives that does nothing to move our agenda forward, as instead they seek to make us further dependant on a limited resource all for the record breaking profits of Exxon-Mobil (and the record breaking pull on your wallets). She neglected also to mention that former V.P. Gore was correct in pointing out some of the atrocities being committed by this Administration, highlighed by even more photos released from the dungeons at Abu Ghraib. She neglected to mention that this Administration has no plans for dealing with Saudi Arabia, instead is a close business ally and associate of the House Of Saud. That it would rather start fights with democratically elected governments in South America than to stand up to the Saudis. So rather than lambast a former governmental official because of her own parties shortcomings, she should act in a truly American fashion and hold those in power accountable to their actions, or in this case, lack of any actions. Instead, we get the usual, "The buck stops where!??!!" mentality of politics from The Party of Bush. Ms. Parker should spare us the game of "nyah nyah Gore" that was over in 2001, and join us in 2006. Here, Americans want real answers to real problems, not the empty snide partisanship, the sad mindless flag waving, and empty bumper sticker politics that's become the S.O.P. over at RNC headquarters. Stop blaming a former Vice President nearly 6 years removed from government, and maybe instead look to those who sit in office today. Last time I checked, it was 2006, not 1996.
