"Bush is a neoconservative"--Interesting neocon/PNAC article
BTW guys, we can turn "neocon" into a dirty word just like they turned "liberal" into one. But anyway, enjoy.

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=34517

"It's a positive sign when conservative commentators rush to defend President Bush from being defiled by the neoconservative label. The tag, thankfully, is becoming a pejorative. They will, however, have to pry Mr. Bush from the loving arms of the self-proclaimed "godfather" of neocons himself."

"But the real bailiwick of the neoconservative is to mask a contempt for the Constitution and an unprecedented expansion of government at home and abroad with a "great cause." (This is another catchphrase culled from the latest presidential address). Kristol is particularly chilling when he explains that a large nation like the U.S. has an ideological identity to live up to. Tellingly, he juxtaposes "the United States of today" with "the Soviet Union of yesteryear." This, presumably, serves to hammer home the importance of ideological interests to powerful nations. ("Trotsky's ghost is still wandering the White House ...")"

4. turn "neocon" into an insult, then lable ALL repubs as neocons
The word is undefined in the public's eye. We need to do EXACTLY what they did to "liberal"

6. Cryingwolfowitz, let me be the first to give you an Amen on that!
The negative conotation that has been attached to the word "liberal" is frightening. Forget about compassion and concern for your fellow man, which is really what being "liberal" is all about. They've managed to redefine it as basically illogical emotionally-driven ideals that have no place in mainstream America.

Turnabout is fair play. I support your idea wholeheartedly!!!!

5. What is she saying, exactly? Is she a conservative?
Edited on Wed Nov-05-03 04:06 PM by Cat Atomic
Forgive my confusion, but she seems to be arguing from a Buchanan sort of protectionist angle, saying that Bush and his crew aren't real conservatives.

I think Neo-Cons ARE conservatives. They're a direct result of conservative policies (like media consolidation and corporate empowerment), even if they're not completely in-line with traditional conservative values.

The Neo-conservative movement is like a crack-addicted baby born to a crack addict. Of course the mother didn't want it that way, but it's a direct result of the mother's own condition.

What I mean to say is that traditional Paleo-Conservatives shoulder a big part of the blame for the Neo-Conservative movement. Their assanine ideas gave birth to it.

8. NeoCons and plans for Iraq
"Besides, there is evidence that Bush came to power with a plan to remove Saddam"-

This is true- My husband is in the military. He first told me of Bush's plans for Iraq in February 2001. I asked him what the justification would be, but at the time it was early in the planning stages.
It came as no shock when the administration tried to link Saddam to 9/11 the day after the attacks.
