A U.S. View: Bush censure far-off in this climate
One of the central questions being asked in American politics today is “why won't they fight?” — the “they” in this case being the Democratic Party. It's a question that cuts right to the core of everything that has gone awry in this country.

Senator Russell Feingold is learning a hard lesson right now. The brave senator from Wisconsin probably thought he could lead a movement of courage among Democrats through his recent motion to censure President George W. Bush for breaking the law by wiretapping American citizens.

So Feingold mounted his steed, aimed his lance and charged off to do something that hasn't been done since Andrew Jackson's day.

And then he looked behind him and saw that he was alone.

3. IF the GOP Is a Cult in Denial of Reality, What Are Democrats?
I'm afraid that the only possible answer is: Enablers!

The two political parties are the two sides of a destructive relationship: the sick one who dishes it out, and the sick one who takes it and makes excuses not to change or respond appropriately.

In such a relationship, there are only 2 exits: The sick party of the first part is removed from the scene by death, total incapacitation, or jail; or the sick party of the second part starts to heal and become a functional agent of change. Getting Jesus doesn't count in either case, but is simply another form of manifesting the illness.

Anne Wilson Shaef tracked down, identified, and analyzed this pervasive American illness in a series of books. She started in the feminist viewpoint, but found that too limiting to encompass the entire disease. I highly recommend these works of hers which I have read, and note that she has written more books since, which I have not yet had an opportunity to read:

Women's Reality 1988 (?)

When Society Becomes an Addict 1987

The Addictive Organization 1990
