Pat Roberts: " resents being called a "lap dog of the administration."

The self-emasculation of a weak Congress
by Steve Chapman
Chicago Tribune

Talking of Pat Roberts (new Intel Committee bill on NSA which ignors Bush' breaking of the law):

This is an absurd parody of the checks and balances our system is supposed to provide. If the framers of the Constitution had thought a single branch of government could police itself, they would not have created three branches.......

The idea was that each branch would jealously guard its powers against the others. But in this case, Congress passed a law, the president ignored it, and Congress applauded him for doing so. Stalin's Politburo could not have been more compliant.

What the framers didn't anticipate was the rise of political parties, allegiances to which now override every other consideration. This episode makes clear that the best government is divided government--where the party that occupies the White House does not control Congress. Only then can we rely on lawmakers to provide a meaningful check on presidential power. With the GOP dominant at both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue, the president can treat Congress as an obsolete irrelevancy. Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.), defending the Republican proposal against critics who say it's pathetically weak, said he resented being called a "lap dog of the administration." That label certainly is unfair. Even lap dogs will bite if they're kicked often enough, which is more than you can say for congressional Republicans.

1. What would he prefer........
"butt boy"? There's no bigger slimy sycophant to bush than Roberts. How he can deny it is beyond me, but then again, Republicans live in a world that's not quite in touch with reality.

2. Press Release from Pat
"Even lap dogs will bite if they're kicked often enough, which is more than you can say for congressional Republicans."

That media statement is unfair... As soon as Dickie gives me my false teeth back I will show you liberal media that I can bite back....

3. I am trying
to come up with some alternatives that might be more acceptable to Sen. Roberts.

What might he be more comfortable with? "Mindless mouthpiece?"

Or maybe, "tame parrot?" How about "playback machine?"

He doesn't have to settle for "lapdog." There are plenty of other,
equally accurate epithets that would apply to him as well.

7. No, he's not a lapdog
I think he's in his own delusional world of egotistical irrationality. How can anyone take him seriously?

10. My comments pertain to Pat Robertson
Rather an extreme statement for me to make about Roberts, but not Robertson.

Hope this makes my original comment more logical.

Maybe Roberts is not a lapdog, but he is a very strong supporter of *

(I need to learn to read more carefully!)

8. Sticks and stone will break his bones but names with always get him
If we just keep up the lap dog meme, maybe he will actually start challenging Shrub to show us his big bad Kansas balls.

13. Let's do a tag team approach
Now that we know he is reading our mail. You take Monday, Mabus can have Tuesday and I'll take Wednesday. We'll let the guys fight over Thursday and Friday. I think Lapdog Roberts should end his week with mail from ComerPerro. LOL
