Not Game Over -Yet - Clift: Have Dems Truly Lost the South?
The South is not hospitable for Democrats. But their cause is only hopeless there if they make it so.

Southern Democrats are an endangered species. The reality of that statement hit me as I was having lunch with a Senate staffer at La Colline, a restaurant on Capitol Hill.

ITTING TWO TABLES away were two former senators, Dale Bumpers of Arkansas and Wyche Fowler of Georgia. White-haired and craggy, straight from central casting, they remind me of a time in history—now long gone—when Southern Democrats were a force in the Congress.
The image deepened when another former southern Democrat, Richard Shelby of Alabama, ambled over and pulled up a chair. The three men chatted amiably, occasionally guffawing, a clubby scene that says a lot about how the Senate works, or used to work. Bumpers retired in 2000, capping his long career in public service with a compelling defense of President Clinton during the impeachment trial. Fowler was defeated in the 1994 Republican sweep and went on to become Clinton’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia.

As I've been saying for 2 years, I'd just give up the South. If I was a Dem. Presidential Candidate I wouldn't spend a penny down there. Why waste your limited time, money and resources? It's stupid business/politics. Consentrate you limited resources in the states you need to win the country.

Sorry for the Southern DUers but you have to be honest. Win the country then use the Presidency to lift the entire country and use the office to publisize the the corruption of the GOP/GOP Media Whores/GOP CEO Board members. I think this was a big mistake of Clintons. Not going after the GOP when he had the chance. Why didn't Clinton have the SEC release the Bush/Harken report?

1. I think we need more REAL Democrats in the South
rather than this old-school Southern Democrat described here. The more Zell Millers who decide to retire, the more voters in the South will feel there is really a difference between the two parties.

2. I think we should take the fight to the south
I think we should try to convince them that having jobs is more important that being able to purchase assault weapons.

6. Hell yes
Take the message to the South. We need the Democratic party to fight. We need to say what The Angry Liberal said

"Democrats should offer the following bargain to every working person who disagrees with us on racial and religious issues: We will continue to disagree with you on these divisive issues, and be damn proud to do so. But in exchange for your support, we're going to make your lives better. We're going to see to it that your employer pays you a fair wage and runs a safe and fair workplace. We're going to see that your children get a decent education and healthcare. We're going to see that the air you breathe and the water you drink is clean and safe. We're going to see that America will be a better place for your children than it was for you. And we're going to do the same for the people you hate for having dark skin or worshipping a different god or loving a member of the same sex. And when you compare that to the republican offer to allow you to play with guns and hate minorities in exchange for an ever-decreasing quality of life, you will not have an easier choice to make. You see, we Democrats are counting on your ability to put aside your beliefs in order to secure your future. Republicans, on the other hand, are counting on you to put aside your future in order to secure your beliefs. The choice is yours."

4. in the South and elsewhere, the GOP has three aces
I'm not at all sure that the GOP got the most votes in Kentucky. I don't know about the other counties, but Jefferson County uses touch-screen no-audit-trail Diebold machines. The GOP has 3 aces now in almost every election in the US. Those are Diebold, ES&S, and Sequoia. Check out >http://ww.verifiedvoting.org/
There are lots of other links, too.

5. GOP's three aces
Sorry, I skipped a "W" on that link, of course. Another good link is http://www.scoop.co.nz The New Zealand newspaper Scoop has a series called "A Very American Coup". A good article is "The 2004 Election Has Already Been Rigged" posted 16 Sept. 2003 on http://www.thepeoplesvoice.org
