Icky! A Job? $14-An-Hour? Fuhgetaboutit!

That's the problem with this country, as the very junior Florida Sen. Mel Martinez so astutely noted the other evening on MSNBC's "Hardball."

There are just too many good-for-nothing, lazy, slob Americans sitting around eating bon-bons and refusing to get off their tushes to do an honest day's labor.

..cut..

"I was talking to a fellow who said they had 250 openings of which 900 people applied," Martinez told Matthews. "Not one was an American citizen, so it just goes to show you there's a demand for a work force that is not being met."

..cut..

Alas - how to put this gently - Florida's novitiate senator's office was unresponsive to a request for the name and contact information for the chap who supposedly had all those jobs that were being blown off by those Kato Kaelin-like Americans.

..more at link..

1. I would run and check Mel's numbers because that kind of information
is questionnable. There's something he's leaving out.

2. Recently in San Antonio
Toyota got 25,000 job applications for 1,500 jobs. I think he needs to be a bit more specific on the jobs & pay he's talking about.

:eyes:

So "this fellow" interviewed each and every one of the 900 job applicants and determined that not one was a citizen?

Or did he simply scan the crowd and determine that not one looked like a WASP?

Or was he ever really there?

This is made-up anecdotal bullshit.

On edit: Never ever believe such vague anectodal testimony. When specifics are withheld, such stories are practically always false.

4. i'm sure it's absolutely completely true
that he did indeed talk to a fellow who told him that laughably false story.

5. I call bullsh*t
I have two jobs, both of which pay much less than $14 an hour. And I'm very much an American citizen.
