Check this out at The New Yorker

This really is the issue. Brazen it out, burn off men and money, not admit there's any real problem and then pass it off on the next guy who will take the blame.

The president lacks the courage to change course. The whole country is paralyzed by his cowardice.

1. "The whole country is paralyzed by his cowardice." That about
says it all for me. Thanks for the article.

2. "...paralyzed by his cowardice."
Excellent commentary at the New Yorker! And BillyBob, I love your phrase: "paralyzed by his cowardice." How accurately it describes this pResident.

George Packer in the New Yorker piece also zeroes in neatly on the heart of the problem regarding Iraq when he talks about this administration's "failed eschatology" (for those who prefer smaller words, eschatology is "The branch of theology that is concerned with the end of the world or of humankind.")

Another example of Packer's astute summary of the problem in this White House:

Last week, in California, (Bush) described his policymaking process in unmistakably clear terms. “I base a lot of my foreign-policy decisions on some things that I think are true,” he said.

Packer nailed it again with this:

It seems that unless God himself gains entry to the West Wing and informs the President that the Iraqis’ desire to be free is not the issue, a grandiose theology will continue to doom America and Iraq to a bloody stalemate.

I recommend reading the entire piece, and rec this thread as well!

Thanks, BillyBob!
