Will Midterm Tide Sweep Congress?
.. Bush and the GOP are facing at least as much dissatisfaction as Democrats and President Clinton did just before the 1994 midterm landslide ..

To gain a majority in the House, Democrats need a net gain of 15 seats. To capture the Senate, they need a net gain of six seats ..

"The idea of Republicans being a rubber stamp for Bush is pretty powerful," said Democratic pollster Geoff Garin ..

Sen. Mike DeWine (R-Ohio), facing a tough reelection race, recently had a fundraiser featuring Bush but avoided being photographed with the president because the event was closed to reporters. DeWine's latest television ad ends with a line calling him an "independent fighter for Ohio families" ..

1. DeWine is weak and inept.
I hope that Sherrod Brown will capitalize on this.

5. But It's OHIO! the Republicans Can Steal it All in Ohio
Please! Let us not place our hopes on Ohio and just get robbed AGAIN!!

We need to find enough vulnerable Republicans in states that still have real elections.
If it comes down to Ohio again, we're gonna get robbed again. Guaranteed.

2. It's pretty hard to say at this point.
All the polls show that a majority of people would rather have Democrats in charge of Congress than Republicans. The incumbent in a house congressional district usually has the advantage, though. I wouldn't be all that surprised if Democrats take the Senate, but I don't know about the House.

3. The media is saying it now.
Once the media starts talking something up, it's almost a sure thing these days.

4. I think DeWine will run stronger than Blackwell in November, but that
Sherrod Brown beats him in a close race.

I don't see Iraq improving all that much and Bush is too stubborn to seek counsel on how to make meaningful reforms.

Any Republican loses __ % in a close race out of frustration and GOP voters not showing up at the polls in the same motivated numbers as Democrats.

7. Who Haven't the GOP Pissed Off?
You really have to think to name a group that has not been pissed off at the GOP.

Fiscal conservatives are upset at the budget deficit.
Military supporters are upset at the waste of their energies.
Libertarians are upset at the intrusions into family health care decisions and the violations of civil liberties.
People who believe in clean government are upset at the scandals.

Who is left to support them?

8. It may be working for Francine Busby... Poll shows her 8 points ahead...
... of Brian Bilbray in this Republican district for the special election, according to this article. Bill Hauf, who was one of the Rethugs that was running against her is trying to make the case along with other more right wing Rethugs around here that Ed Roach should run against Bilbray in the primary shortly because a poll he commissioned showed Busby 8 points ahead of Bilbray.

Read down in Logan Jenkin's column in the Union Tribune for this little factoid.

If that poll is good and Busby would win by that much, that would be HUGE (or would that be HUGH?) as a sign of things to come in November!
