Dick Cheney – CIA Leak-Gate investigator Fitzgerald files two Briefs With Evidence Regarding Cheney’s Role
Investigation is Rapidly Moving Up the Chain of Command

Falling on the heels of Truthout’s http://www.truthout.org Jason Leopold asserting that Karl Rove has in fact been indicted on numerous counts in the outing of Valerie Plame as a CIA operative, CNN is now reporting that Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald has now made two additional filings regarding Cheney’s role in the scandal. While it is still unclear as to whether or not Cheney will ultimately be charged or named as an un-indicted co-conspirator, the filings make clear that evidence will be presented regarding Cheney at the trial of Cheney’s former Chief of Staff I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby.

One of the more compelling things about this evidence is that among other things it involves actual handwritten notes by Vice President Cheney on a copy of Joseph Wilson’s New York Times Op-Ed article “What I didn’t find in Africa” published July 6, 2003 in which Wilson claimed that US Intelligence was “exaggerated and twisted” to support Bush administration claims of WMD in Iraq. Specifically refuted were the claims of ‘yellow cake’ uranium being sold by Niger to Iraq. Who can forget President George W. Bush’s 2003 State of the Union address where he alleged that Iraq was seeking “Significant Quantities of Uranium” from Niger? One can only speculate about what Cheney wrote on that copy of Wilson’s article, but if it is relevant enough to be submitted as evidence by Fitzgerald, it must be at the least embarrassing for Cheney and the administration if not out and out damning to the Vice President. ( A complete text of Wilson’s New York Times Op-Ed can be found at http://www.commondreams.org/views03/0706-02.htm )

What can now be clearly seen is that the CIA Leak-Gate scandal involves the very highest levels of the Bush administration. If Cheney is involved, I think it highly unlikely that President Bush was not himself involved and aware of the conspiracy to discredit Wilson and the information he was revealing via the felonious outing of his wife as a covert CIA agent. It is becoming more and more clear that this administration manipulated intelligence to support the reasons for going to war in Iraq and then conspired like an organized crime family to cover it up and ruthlessly attack those who might expose them. We must have a complete investigation and those responsible should resign or be impeached.

1. Not that I can rule Bush in or out of anything here but...
I'm asking, why wouldn't Cheney just "take care of it" as best he thought, figuring Bush has his back? Why would he bother to involve Bush in the nitty gritty, as if Cheney needs Bush to approve specifics? That's not Bush's management style; he's a broad-brush man. Where does Cheney need a "may I" with this relationship?

2. Yeah, bush** is involved but not in the planning and execution of this
nefarious plot to shut down a CIA cell who's agenda was to investigate WMDs in the Middle East. This was a neocon plot. bush** is just the flunky front man.

Somehow I think even Poopy was out of the loop in this one. He would have executed it with more finesse and skill. He's pulled off some brutal shit in his time. But this here shit, it was nothing but pure thuggery.

The question is whether we can find Bush's fingerprints on the matter.

It may not be that important. We can impeach Bush for lying about Iraq, disregarding treaties about the treatment of detainees and the disposition of occupied territory, incarcerating American citizens indefinitely with charges and wire tapping Americans without a warrant. We don't need to get him for blowing Valerie Plame's cover.

But we probably could without much effort.
