McCain, billionaire brothers forgive and forget(swiftboaters funding McCai
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Just more than six years ago, the Wyly brothers of Dallas were pumping millions into a shadowy TV blitz aimed at derailing Sen. John McCain's presidential bid. And the Arizona maverick was crying foul, demanding an FEC investigation and accusing the billionaire Texans of collusion with the Bush team. "They should be ashamed," he said at the time. "Tell 'em to keep their dirty money in the state of Texas."

It was probably the nastiest incident in the 2000 nomination fight, a turning point in the race. But heck, that was a long time ago.

Monday night, Charles and Sam Wyly will co-host a fund-raiser for a man who once derided them as the "Wyly coyotes" and as George W. Bush's "sleazy Texas buddies."

. . .

By 2000, the Wylys had donated $200,000 to Mr. Bush's campaigns. When his environmental record came under attack from the Sierra Club and others, they decided to pitch in (as they did in 2004, when they helped bankroll Swift Boat Veterans for Truth to attack Sen. John Kerry's assertions of heroism in Vietnam). They quietly created Republicans for Clean Air and spent $2.5 million to broadcast attack ads before crucial primaries in New York, California and Ohio.

. . .

When the Wyly connection surfaced, Mr. McCain accused the brothers of coordinating illegally with Mr. Bush to skirt campaign finance limits. They denied it, as did Rob Allyn, the Dallas GOP consultant who created the ads and had worked on Mr. Bush's 1994 gubernatorial campaign. Mr. Allyn said there's nothing odd about the Wylys' current fondness for the senator; the attacks weren't meant to destroy him, just to clear a path for Mr. Bush.

13. McCain has no pride
or self-respect he allows him and his family to be humiliated and
then he cozies up to those that did it to him. ;( I don't understand how anyone can have a shred of respect for someone like that, he repulses me.
