Thank you, Mr. Bush.
I've tried to be a good American. I've tried to be a good citizen. I've done my very best to bring food and clothing to my brethren who have fallen upon hard times. I do these things not because I expect redemption at the end of the day, but because we, as people, can help alleviate some of the pain and suffering which falls upon our fellow man. We, through individual efforts, can bring some measure of brightness into the world. Struggling to find our own bootstraps, we can do those things which are right. Thanks are not necessary. Recognition is not necessary. Being able to sleep at night with the simple knowledge that you are, at the very least, NOT making the world a worse place can be enough to hold the demons at bay.

I walked my children out of New Orleans. I instructed me eldest what to do if I died. I did everything within my power to allay their fears. There was a point I felt I was certain to die, and I felt a small kind of peace knowing that my kids were safe. They'd get out, and if my life was the cost, so be it.

My 6 year old daughter and I started watching "War of the Worlds" tonight. She saw the destruction at the beginning of the movie, and said "it looks like they had a hurricane." Later, she asked "did the aliens do that?" She ended up telling me, "we didn't have aliens, they just left us to die."

There are no words to encompass the rage within my soul. None.

1. I cannot begin to imagine what you have endured. I can only say:
Bless you for your commitment to your family and you have my utmost admiration for the way you have survived and risen above such terrible circumstances and have lived to speak the truth. I pray that you will be blessed for your courage and perseverence and I pray that your future holds only the good things you deserve.

Your daughter is wise beyond her years. May your strength be hers. The world is a better place because of you. And may the aliens who left you to die receive their just rewards. Someplace very hot and fiery would be good.

Blessings.

2. There are no words
for me to express the anger I feel at having the Bush administration, which was supposed to protect all of us, ignore you and so many other's plight. My husband and I watched in horror, day after day, only to see people dying on t.v. We heard the anguish in people's voices, and looked at each other in dismay, wondering why the man who claims to serve to protect us was instead eating birthday cake, and playing air guitar.

We saw people interviewed, who had tried to get aid to Katrina's victims, only to be turned away by HS. I wish I had the words to apologize to you, and so many others, that we did not take to the streets, and demand aid for our brothers and sisters. We felt so helpless, and so full of grief, and felt that we now understood, that the America we were born in had been taken over by people with no hearts, or souls.

If we cannot slake their insatiable greed, they don't care about us. A city, a beautiful, unique city, was allowed to die as we watched it unfold on t.v. If news cameras could make it in, why couldn't rescue workers. What happened in New Orleans, and the rest of the cities affected, could happen to any of us. It could be a hurricane, tornadoes, earthquake, fire, whatever. The current administration will first figure out how to make a profit on the tragedy before they respond.

This is, without any doubt, the worst, the most corrupt, administration in the history of our country, and Bush is far and away the worst president ever.

8. Has anyone done a comparison between ........
¨Katrina¨and ¨Wilma¨? In the June National Geographic there´s a report prepared by The Inteligent Investor on Hurricanne Wilma which hit the Yucatan penisula on Oct. 21 2005. This was no small storm. It had winds of 180MPH and it was moving very slowly through the major cities of the state of Quintana Roo. The bigest differance was the number of deaths. No one died from Wilma who knows how many died from Katrina. The Mexican government must feel very proud of this statistic the U.S. government should be very ashamed of their response, are they? I think someone with more computer smarts than I could make a great post comparing the two storms side by side. Wind speed, speed over land, size of eye, size of storm surge etc. Not one person died from Wilma, this is a developing country we´re talking about, MEXICO!

6. Please forgive my emotional outburst.
Having my daughter emit those quiet, knowledgable words shook me. I feel a part of her innocence was stripped from her, and I can't fix it and I just want to punish the bastards responsible. Children are supposed to be safe and confident in the knowledge that no matter what happens, somebody is going to take care of them. They should NOT face life thinking people are just going to leave them to die.

The people of this world did not do this. The government in America did. I showed my children to a rescue copter, and they still flew away. The people "in charge" aren't fulfilling their responsibilities.

To those of you who have offered, thank you for your prayers. I've never been a religious man, but these are dark times and your words provide a beacon of hope. Thank you.
